Dear BBB,
I was interviewed by a program which sponsors ony J1. Although it is not so impressive compared to some of the programs where I had IVs, I'm interested in it because I and my family don't need to move if I match there. Same time they called me for a second visit too.
My problem is my country doesn't issue the letter of need required for J1 by any means. Initially when I told this to PD and asked about possibility of an H1, he said no way. Then I told him that I am not going to rank the program. After sometime he called me and said in exceptional situatins their helth system sponsors H1 and so that keep their program in the ROL.
Since it is very convenient if I match there I thought of ranking it high. But my senior doctors advice not to do that because it is a verbal statement and If they tell me that they cannot sponsor H1 once I match there, I will be in a great trouble.
My question is If I match there, are they bound to sponsor me H1 or can they still refuse and I miss the residency ?
I appreciate your help. Sorry for being too long.

My honest answer would be "Why would a PD lie to you" - if they sponsor H1 for special circumstances, and he mentions it - it would infer that your would be a special circumstance, nicht wahr?
