I have ranked my list with a CLEAR #1. Through different forms of communication with residents and faculty they seem to be very interested in me as well. Would you tell a program they are your #1 ranked program? My only pessimistic concern is they may rank me lower as a 'safety net' knowing this tidbit information. Although, if I were an optimist, I would think they actually would rank me high if they knew I ranked them #1. Any thoughts?

You can tell the program how you plan to rank them voluntarily, but what you can not do is to ask how they will rank you, nor can they ask you how you will rank them.

Agree with Carmencita. Programs and applicants can tell each other how they will rank each other on a voluntary basis, but they can not ask each other or force each other to disclose.

Applicants always tell me that we are their #1 choice. You should rank based on how you liked the programs, not how you think they liked you. If it's your #1, it's your number 1.... .....as I hit the certify button again......

Hi BBB, Since you hear people say that they are ranking you number one all the time and so I guess you've come to expect it, would you take it as sign of disinterest if you don't hear from a certain applicant at all? I haven't communicated with anyone from my number one program since shortly after my interview and I'm wondering whether that will count against me.

NO!! As I have said before, less than half of the applicants correspond with me after their interview. We rank based on the interview, not if they send a thank you letter, note, presents, etc.
