There was a picture of blood vessel and it asked from where nitric oxide is released.....

Is it the smooth muscle or the endothelium

answer given is smooth mucle

But NO is an endothelial derived growth factor right?

  #2

NO is released from endothelial cells.

  #3

can u read the question again maybe u have lost something

cause nitric oxide is synthesized in vascular endothelium and then diffuses to the vascular smooth muscle

  #4

oh man i got it!!!!!!

released is very different from synthesized!!!!!!!

no is synthesized in vascular endothelial cells but released into smooth muscle

nitric oxide is a very soluble gas so it will diffuse into smooth muscles and causes them to relax

other sites of synthesis of NO other than endothelial cells of blood vessels are:

neurons , macrophages and neutrophils

  #5

for example insulin is synthesized in b cells of pancreas but released into the blood

hope it is clear now

  #6

That question asks about "principal site of action of NO" in producing vasodilation

NO is released from endothelial cells but acts on vascular smooth muscle to cause vasodilation.

  #7

ya q was principal site of action i did not read the q properlyshaking headmadshaking head
