Read 50 pages Rapid Review Pathology last night. Excellent stuff from Dr. Goljan. I really liked it. Hopefully will give it a good first revision by the end of this week, very aggressive, but doable, squeeze most of the time.

Submitted application to ECFMG for test on 7-9 period. Hopefully will make it on July. Let's do it.

All the best commit. I plan to submit my application this week for the 8-10 period, but hoping to take the exam in 8, depending on my progress. I am still in Physio, plan to complete it by next wednesday and move on to Path. Heard a lot about Goljan, cant wait to start it.

Keep it going.

simon73, best luck to you too! I have been feeling tired the last couple of days. But need to work it out. This is too important to mess up with.

My ideal test date will be early August. Just try to push myself to take it asap by choosing a period that I better finish it before the end of Sep. Don't want to postpone anymore. Hopefully I will have a good 2008. Things more important than USMLE are also happeningnodnod

Hi commit,

I completed the online application today for the 8-10 period. Made some progress in Kaplan Physio. Currently reading Endocrine physio. Your plan sounds good and is very similar to mine. Nice to know that someone is in a similar situation.

Lets keep moving forward.

Finished general pathology in RR in four days. The system pathology will take much longer. Hopefully will finish the whole thing by the end of next week. Will also use FA on the side to get a more wholistic feel.

Did one block of UW yesterday, 56%. Need improvement. Hopefully the first 10, will average closer to 60%. To get 60%, i will need to do 64% for the next 4 block. I think it is doable. Only need to get 4 more questions right.

  #57

Hello commit,

Glad you are making progress. I am still in Physio, hoping to finish it by this thursday and start Goljan Patho.

Keep it going.

  #58

keep reading....man...grin

How progressive u r !! nod

  #59

Thanks for stopping by, guys. Thanks for all the encouragement! I need it.

I am slowing down recently. Only finished 350p of RR so far. Need to push really hard to finish it in this week. Learned a lot from Dr. Goljan, the best pathophysiology source, amazing stuff to me.

Anatomy is definitely the last pain in the ass for me. Will start fighting it next week. Will prevail.

  #60

Hi commit,

Sorry if i sound ignorant for asking this. I have Goljan patho audio lectures (5-day) and its associated notes. I also have Goljan High-yield 100 page notes. What is RR? is it not the Goljan lectures notes?

Thanks.

Lets keep rolling.

Hi simon73,

RR is the Rapid Review Pathology, find it here:

http://www.amazon.com/Rapid-Review-Pathology-STUD...

It is more organized. The book is an excellent source for pathophysiology. It is a pretty big book with about 600p of content. But I think it is worth to put some serious time into it. At first sight, I did not like it and I think there are too much information. Right now, after reading half of it, I am very happy I made the right decision to buy it and invest a serious amount of time on it.

Never seriously read the HY 100 pages. Found this book is more comprehensive and coherent. The HY 100 pages might be good for final review though.

Good luck. I need to work harder tonight. So behind my schedule.

Another block of UW, still sucks, 54%.

Need to raise the intensity of the revision. Seems stagnant right now. Made stupid mistakes as well. I guess I need to look beyond the score right now. I need to do a couple more blocks and review those Qs and get a feel about how the Qs are asked and what kind of points are most tested.

Try to do two more blocks (unused) and then repeat all the incorrect Qs and review thoroughly before I move on to the next 10 blocks. It is a tough road ahead of me. I will prevail.

Weakest subject,

1. Anatomy 2. pathology 3. Histology 4. Embryology 5. pathophysiology 6. BS

Weakest organ systems,

1. Blood vessels, 2.Dermatology 3. Head and neck 4. Cardiology 5. Renal 6. Muscleskeletal 7.Endocrinology

Will work more in those areas. Will finish 10 blocks in March (3/30) and then take the first week off of April to study. (3/31-4/6), 4/7-4/20 will finish another 10-12 blocks. Study another two weeks (4/21-5/4). 5/5-5/25 will finish all the blocks left (18-20).

Sometime along the road, hopefully I will see the improvement.

Everybody is aiming for a high score. However, only a handful can truly reach scores above 260.

Somebody has photo-copy like memorizing ability and somebody has to read two three times to have a faint impression. (I am the latter one) Somebody just graduated and have fresh memories and somebody has forgot all that were learned 10 years ago. Somebody has the whole day and strong support to study and somebody has to squeeze his time to find some time and study with a exhausting mind or body. Somebody has faith and perservance and somebody quits easily. Somebody wants perfection and keeps pushing and somebody is satisfied with a OK performance. Somebody is young and full of dream and somebody is running out of time and making a final push. Somebody is ambitious with plan but weak in execution and somebody will follow his plan firmly till the end.

Every one has his own unique situation. Every one has his own path. In general, miracle is not happening often. You usually will get what you are deserved. There is nobody to be blamed. This is a real world. Things happen for a reason. You either get it or you don't. Wishful thinking does not do much good.

Back to your action. Be pumped up, be steady.

It's an important time for me. I can either turn up a notch or I will simply free fall. I need to gather my energy and enter the fight mode. I need to prove that I can do it. It is do or die. I am feeling the fatigue. But no excuse is allowed.

No more NCAA, no more NBA, no more useless news, no more American Idol, no more Dancing with stars, no more TV, no more wasting time wondering online.

I am now beam focused. I am fighting for you, my baby.

Hey buddy i'm not sure i deserve all the things u say bout me but thanks a lot for everything.smiling face

Bout ur question...
I think havin been through one step previously certainly helps with the second one, whether that be 1 or 2.
They do have clinical vignettes on step1, and they feature quite frequently, but personally i feel there is no need to go through step2 material when u prepare for step1. Whatever clinical stuff's given in step1 material should suffice.

Yes fatigue does creep in now n then. A small break sometimes helps. I'm sure u'll do great on the exam. nod
Good luck!smiling face

Hi commit,

Nice illustration of different scenarios faced by potential exam takers. All the best for your preparation. Keep it going.

Need to get back to studies, after a break.

  #69

Hi Pal,

Didnt see any message from you in your journal. Hope all is well with you and your progress.

  #70

Hi simon73,

Thanks for your concern. My life has been busy recently. Something big is happening in my life. I haven't concentrated on my study for the last couple of days. I will let you know when the time is right. I am sorry that I am a little nervous to break the news yet. Just a hint, it is something totally personal. But I really appreciate your concern.

I am coming back to study harder. First thing is to finish Rapid review soon. I need to put a lot more effort into it. I am also considering to do more Qs, like Robbin's review or something. I will use that as a tool to enhance my study. Also I heard Goljan's path Qs are good too. I cannot afford not to study pathology well. It is one of my weakest subjects and also the most tested one.

  #71

Hi commit,

Good to hear that you are back. I hope your personal issues will settle down in the way you wish. No need to share anything, i will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you for suggesting Rapid Review Pathology by Goljan. I purchased it yesterday and read about 40 pages, it is very very good. So far what i had was a photocopied older version of his lectures in a text format, only 300 pages, no pictures or questions.

Keep it going. I will be visiting you whenever i can.

  #72

Back to work now. I just couldn't concentrate last week. Time is ticking on me. Honestly, I am not nearly making the progress I was planning to make. So far, it looks a lot like a path to failure. But learning from life has taught me, I won't give up. You try, try and try until you succeed. Life is precious. It is so easy to give up at the moment. But it is so hard to look back when you realized you did not give your best.

Will post a more detailed day-to-day progress to monitor my progress.

  #73

Modified my schedule a little bit. It was too aggressive. I usually went to bed around 3am and woke up around 8am. It was OK for the first couple of days and then it take a toll on me. I don't want to ruin my body for this and I won't be able to work efficiently either. I should have a more sustainable schedule, even if it means less study time and slower progress. It is for the long time gain. Besides work and study, I also need to shoulder a lot of family responsibilities. Family is always the first for me. Personal health is equally important, because I am the cornerstone of the family. With this in my mind, I shall improve my efficiency instead of putting too many time and too much strain on my health. It feels good to get this straight.

  #74

Hi Commit, I was reading through some of your posts. Ideally, it would be great if one can get some physical exercise every day and have a routine study time too, but not all days are alike- some are more productive than others. When I prepared for Step one, I studied as my as I could on my "good" days, even if it meant skipping my exercise or family time, but on other days, when I just could not study for love or money, I simply went with the flow and focused on energizing myself guilt free- which is easier said than done. All the best in your prep.

  #75

Hi Commit,

Good to see you back. I had a similar schedule few months ago but didnt work out well hence i changed it to suit me. I am glad that you are getting your schedule straight. Veterans words are very right. If only we could implement what is said, we can surely ace this exam with very high scores. Keep on rolling.

I am in 150 page mark in RR. Will cover some system-wise path this week.
