Thanks, usmlekiller.

I have been working on FA these days. It is impossible for me to finish it before Sunday. So will postpone my NBME to Monday or Tuesday. I want to use this chance to push myself to have a solid read of FA.

I think one thing cames to me while I was doing some questions. For usmle, it is important that you know a lot. But what's even more important is how well you know the stuff you think you know. It is really more important to know the common stuff cold than learning those obscure stuff.

Thanks, AD. I am so happy to see you stopping by.

I might have changed my plan. I did one block of offline form 1 and decided to do it for learning more than evaluating. And I probably will take a form 5 or 6 next Sunday. In the meantime, will have a thorough review of FA and hopefully more goljan. Hopefully, I can also finish a big chunk of Kaplan Q bank, starting this Sunday.

Got 8 wrong in the first block. Hopefully will do better in the latter three.

great going commit.....gl wit the kaplan bank

p.s. are you finding nbme ques much easier than uw?

Hi commit,

All the best with NBME prep. Have a productive weekend.

  #227

Thanks simon and usmlekiller.

Finished the downloaded Form 1. It was a pleasant surprise. According to the unofficial answer, I had only 21 wrong answers. It might be pure luck though. I have a hard time in block 1 and 3, espeically 3, I was unsure for at least 14 of the Qs and yet only had 4 wrong answers. So it was likely just a fluke. But I am very happy with 179/200. It does look like redoing the UW might be a good idea. I am now a little nervous about the coming NBME next week. Hopefully, I will have another strong performance.

For usmlekiller, yes, most NBME Qs tends to be short and straightforward, much easier than most UW Qs. According to the past test takers, the real one can be more similar to UW though. It is hard to say.

Good weekend and happy studying, everyone.

Great commit, you are truly an inspiration!

Thank you guys, usmlekiller and simon73. Usmlekiller, I will consider 250 as mission accomplishedgrin. Simon73, you are my inspiration too. Use your last three weeks wisely, you can get a lot of things done.

I am surprised too. I hope the answers attached to those downloaded NBME are mostly correct. (There is definitely one question they got wrong.) Also form 1 appears to be the easiest in all 6 forms. There is really a lot of lucky breaks too. (I hope I can get them in the real exam.) Have said all that, I have to say, I am really really happily surprised with the scorenod. Now let's build up some more mormentum on that.

One thing I can get out of this experience is that doing Qs is not enough. One need to master them by repeating them (displine or system wise). Also, with the knowledge learned from those Qs, I can then better appreciate FA and remember all the associated knowledge better. It appears the strategy has worked for me in the last three weeks. I am way behind of my FA schedule though.shaking head

Now is the time to get Kaplan Q bank in about 3 weeks. Hopefully I can also do it twice. It is very ambitious. But I am going to give my best. Have finished 7 blocks the last two days. There is some up and downs and finally averaged 73%. I would like to aim for close to 80% at the end. But it is not very realistic since I only have one week or 10 days to finish it. So the major goal is to finish it. I actually hope I have finished and redone UW much earlier, rather than waiting to have improvement on the score. Those Q banks (including NBME) plus FA definitely give us a shortcut to high scores.

Let's work hard every day, the score and everything else will take care themselves.

Great suggestions commit.

  #235

thank you all, target, usmlekiller, AD, simon.

I think I was probably on some kind of high over last weekend. Tonight I did another 3 blocks of kaplan, got a bloody 63% average. So I am not very consistent at all. There are so many common things I forgot. disapproval Keep working hard and will do better next time.

  #236

hey commit not to worry i heard kaplan asks more facts compared to uw which is lookin for more mechanisms....which is hopefully wat step 1 is like.....so dont stress over it....keep at it gl

Hi commit,

I am encountering similar problem too. Some of the subjects are highly volatile and am keep forgetting what I knew last week. We just to repeat, revise and reinforce until it sticks cold!

  #238

Thank you, usmlekiller and simon. Ha, somehow it is easier to forget than remember. I guess that's what make the test more interesting. Only we, who will not be detered by the huge frustration, will thrive.wink

Managed another 3 blocks today, not good either, averaged 67%. I am already tired and sick of those Qs. I start worrying about how I can manage 7 blocks of them in the real test. Oh well, it is probably a test of endurance too. With the added adrenaline, we should be fine.

I think right now, my problem is that I am addicted to doing Qs. I spent too little time on reading books. I should be more displined to allocate my time.

  #239

I am a little disappointed with my recent Kaplan Qbank scores. Factor in my UW scores, averaged NBME performance, it looks like I am probably in the middle 90s. There are still many holes in my knowledge. So the next five days, I will focus on reviewing FA and occasionally some old Qs. No more new Qs. I need to sit down and nail those heavily-tested important concepts. 38 days is a lot of time and I will improve. I will also definitely take Form 5 or 6 (6 might be better as it seems more difficult) this weekend. Let's see what happens then.

I need to do a better job in microbiology and pharmacology. Furthermore, I have a lot of work to do in BS and anatomy. Systemwise, neurology, muscleskeletal, skin needs more work. As long as I am learning new things every day and reinforcing some old things, I will be fine.

  #240

yea commit u still got plenty of time man not to worry.....let nbme 6 tell u where u stand....until than just review hardcore....im sure u will get 99 on that nbme.....so keep at it....btw....im also planning on doing uw 2nd time...i was thinking of doing it timed/random ques....how did u do it and wat do u recommend thxnod
