Kaplan Qbank USMLE

I have my step one exam in just one week, and ONE of my biggest worries at this point is keeping my concentration going for 8 continuous hours!!! It just seems so IMPOSSIBLE for me...anyone have any suggestions? I'm freaking out here, and no one I've talked to seems to relate or even understand...so I figured that since you guys are going through the same thing...whom better to ask, right?
Thanks so much!

Hi Roja

I know how you feel. I just took the exam a few days ago and had similar doubts. The key is to simulate the test a number of times under similar conditions. Not sure if you have done that but it would be useful to buy both NBME self-assessment forms (4 blocks each) and go through them. NBME questions are highly representative of the actual test. Also, try Kaplan's simulated CD as a 2nd choice.

Aside for practicing the exam, I also practiced not being judgmental about the questions(i.e. whether they're hard, easy, or impossible). You're less likely to solve a problem if you think that it's too difficult and get frustrated. Just focus is what you are asked, eliminate as many wrong choices as possible, and pick the one that seems to be the correct answer(easier said that done, but at least you should give it your best shot). If you keep this appraoch with every question, you will develop a rhythm that will help you in keeping your concentration.

Best of luck

Hi Maxb,

Thanks so much for the tips. I know exactly what you're talking about with the whole "non-judgemental" approach with each question. Sometimes I freak out for no reason just from that instant sense of the question being really hard, which ofcourse instantly freezes up my brain and keeps me from thinking through the problem properly. I have taken 2 simulated exams to help build up my stamina...only two more days left now....
Anyway, thank you for responding...I truly appreciate it, and best of luck to you as well!!
