I took my exam on Jan 28/29 and I didn't pass with 159 (64). I realized, I lack a lot. I did uw, dvds of kaplan step3, but read only half a portion of the book, half of swanson (I changed to kaplan while reading it because most of my friends who read swanson didn't pass), half of crush the board and uw ccs, uw q bank. Reasons for not passing- 1) should have sticked to swanson and changed to kaplan only after finishing it, because while reading kaplan- I always used to think, i should have finished swanson or should have done ck 2) emotionally disturbed and adjustment problem with roommate in new apartment 3) should have finished books one by one like first swanson, then kaplan, then crush the board 4) I lacked basic concepts of step 2 ck, my score in step 2 ck was only 76 and its been a year I passed that, should have given more time for step3. 5) wasn't focusing too much for exam, as I heard people saying uw is enough and 1 month is enough. No, its not enough, if we take time for step 1 and step 2 why are we neglecting step 3? it has equal importance and equally difficult, atleast it wasn't enough for me. 6) should have joined the discussion group or discussed with friends. 7) should have taken nbme to access myself 8) should have filled up the form only after becoming prepared, I filled up the form on july and as I couldn't study in a good way till end of december, only after 1st of Jan I started preparing in a good way. I did very bad in neurology/ ophthalmology (now i'm planning to start preparing according to the topics), from poor to good in descending order- 1) Neurology/ophthalmology 2) musculoskeletal/skin/connective (Rheumato/derma/musculoskeletal) 3) reproductive/urinary (ObGyn/ nephrology) 4) Behavioral/emotional (ethics/stat/psychiatry) 5) Circulatory/blood (cardio/hematoloty/oncology/emergency) 6) Respiratory/ENT (pulmonology/ENT) 7) GI 8) Infectious/Immunology 9) surgery 10) pediatrics Age wise- I did very poor management for age above 54. clinical settings- office and inpatient management was poor. clinical encounters- continuing care was poor. physician tasks- health maintenance, clinical intervention and applied scientific concepts were poor. My CCS seems to be ok. This time I'm going to do Text books 1. kaplan notes step 3 2. first aid 3. swanson's family practice (geriatrics, sports & emergency medicine, pain management) 4. crush the boards 5. kaplan notes step 2 ck mcqs 1. fischer's qs 2. usmle cd - sample mcqs 3. kaplan q book/bank step 3 4. usmle world step 3 5. usmle world step 2 (notes) 6. nbme ccs 1. uw ccs 2. usmle cd ccs 3. fa ccs My plan is to do ccs and discuss with a friend for atleast 4 hours daily in the morning, then read and do qs topic wise. Planning to take it again by end of April. Lets see how it goes.

Thanks kity for the good words. All the best to you too. I couldn't study after 20 pages of Neurology from kaplan step3 yesterday. But, I did finish neurology from kaplan 3 book today- last few cases of neurology are good. Then did Neurology from FA, finished one block of Neurology from UW3 , one and half block more to go will finish it tonight. 3 blocks from uw2, 2 blocks from qbank are left. Planning to finish it by wednesday and half of thursday. I'm waiting for step2 ck and crush the board book by mail, as I gave it to somebody else thinking i will pass, I'm planning to read Neurology and other topics from those books too. Today I read doc_clotaire's dairy and I also want to add washington manual on my book list for some selective topics which I'm really weak at. But, I want to finish according to what I have planned before, I don't want to be unsystematic this time. I suggest people who are doing step 3 to read FA too, I am finding it very informative than crush. I'm doing both. I didn't do ccs today. For 26th feb, tuesday I'm taking tomorrow day off but still planning to do ccs in the morning and will finish 15 ccs cases, one block of neurology from uw2.

Didn't study yesterday. Done with total of 22 ccs cases. I didn't do UW3 of neurology day before yesterday. My today's plan is to do - neurology of uw3 88qs neurology of uw2 qs I took a day off yesterday, feeling good and more energetic. Done with 6 ccs cases. And I read article about recommendations for diabetes- FPG, not A1C, is the preferred diagnostic test for diabetes in children and nonpregnant adults. Screening for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in asymptomatic people should be considered in adults with a BMI of 25 kg/m2 or more and at least 1 other risk factor. Otherwise, testing should begin at age 45 years. If results are normal, testing should be repeated at intervals of 3 years or less. FPG or 2-hour OGTT, or both, is appropriate to test for prediabetes or diabetes. The target A1C goal for nonpregnant adults is generally less than 7%, or less than 6% without significant hypoglycemia, for selected patients. Less stringent A1C goals may be appropriate in children and in other specific groups of patients. People with prediabetes or diabetes should receive individualized MNT as needed to achieve treatment goals. DSME should be offered to patients with diabetes at diagnosis and as needed thereafter to change self-management behavior and address psychosocial issues. Third-party payors should reimburse for MNT (medical nutrition therapy) and DSME (diabetes self-management education).

Till now done with 39 cases of ccs, 2 blocks of uw3, decided not to do washington manual. Today- usmle world 3 - 1 block usmle world 2 - 1 block usmle world 2 - 1 block (if possible)

Hi NJCJZY, Thankyou for checking in with me. I didn't match so I was little frustrated and went for a little vacation. Had fun, charged again. So, I'm back with the forum again. I'll be doing 3 days of observership in a week so won't be able to study the whole week but will try to keep the pace. Will work hard for 4 days. I'm done with the fischer's q, im ck book after that I haven't touch the book. But, I will continue again.
