Hi friends, During the interview season,I was given "a letter" saying that its in lue of the contract and that it has accepted me as pgy-1for2008-09.The PD said she doesnt want to withdraw seats from match ,so said she will rank me in 1-7(there are 7 seats in total). But now I see the no. of. seats this particular program has submitted is 6- I infer that it has undoubtedly offered one applicant a prematch. Why did the program lie to me about prematch? Should I be still hopefull of getting matched there?

have you ever thought that maybe that given" seat was/is reserved for YOU??? Call the program and ask them. I know you may be a little intimidated to do so, BUT its your future. I know if I were you I would. Don't be afraid, if anything they will be -- obviously you are a great candidate and they don't want to loose you!

i dont understand the whole deal.. they have given you a contract and are going to match as they dont want to withdraw? that is either incorrect or very dodgy. Also, isn't this cheating with NRMP and other applicants who may be ranking this program. Who knows how mant such contracts they have issued.

as far as i know, programs are prohibited to give promises for ranking/match.... regardless of how they are going to rank you, unless you sign a prematch, rank ALL your programs where YOU want to go in order of YOUR preference....

I think there is a confusion,I am participating in the match. The program asked me to rank them as no. 1 to get matched and said,I'll get the seat as long as I do so.When they were giving me "the letter of acceptance",they said they dont want to send NRMP any changed seats as its a hassel. But their attitude seems to have changed since then ! B12-I dont feel confortable confronting them regarding this 'coz if they give me a contract and ask me to sign it rightaway-I will be in a delima,as this is not my no. 1 in ROL. Moozy-things are unclear to me right now about their attitude. babydoc4usmle-Yes,thats 1 thing I am certainly going to do!

hey buddy: If it's not your number 1, then don't sweat it. Rank how YOU like the programs and know that if the top choices don't come through, you'll atleast have a seat at this hospital. Maybe it worked out for the best on your part. And yea, it's kinda shady on there part.. but I guess there isn't much you can do. Good Luck in the match.
