Hey folks,
you guys rock! I mean girls too.
Guess what? I sent my answers to NBME today. Haha... I meant the USMLE guys. Let me cite my excuses to lower the expectations. To be on the safe side. I was OK until yesterday night when people who got a room next to me screamed and woke me up from my sweet sleep. I was in a REM. I had to stay up the whole night thanks to those drunks. Yup. I paid the price for staying up. When I was working on some of the blocks, my EEG went flat. Yes flat. All I had to do was pick letters as a lottery. Doesn't that feel good? .....dreaming.....picking answers. I am not making it up. It is just what happened.
Lets get to the important point, which could help you. Hey people, the exam is all about OLD REPUBLICANS. You have to study Geriatrics well. It is all about 87, 92, 79....years old man/woman with HTN, DM, COPD and....and smoking Cuban cigars. They will add budwiser too. Damn rich people! They got us in trouble. If you know in-and-outs of these things, you are set for about 10% of the exam material.
Here comes the part I hate as all IMGs do. Behavioral Science. What will you do? What do they have? All of them were vague for me. Even if I pass, it will be my lowest performance. The first 3 or 4 questions in every block are behavioral science. Can we send the behavioral science to lawyers?
I had two ECGs and two audio questions. One of the audio questions was easy. The other one, not so easy. Oh...I had one tocograph too. Looks familiar.
There are children with frequent infections too. Poor kids. Of course don't forget the mothers. They always come either with bleeding or pain. I used to think the science of mothers was easy. No more....
Did I forget 3 or 4 chest X-rays, 1 CT, one blood smear (look for the parasites-whatever they are), and couple of derma pictures?
I don't know why NBME is interested in the elderly. The elderly like to fall as usual. I think NBME is tired of building nursing homes. God help us.
Yea...there are the Step 1 questions too. I hate memorizing things. Pharmacology is one of those- side effects blah blah.....
Poisoning... couple of questions.
Don't forget the drunk drivers. They are always involved in collisions.
Piece of advice: do questions posted on this forum as EMBN (can you read backwards?). Make notes from UW...especially where it says-objective. I wish I would have subscribed to UW again. I did it a month ago without reading notes and my score was pretty damn low. I was trying to use it as a learning tool. Hey, you need to know those things.
Those USMLE CDs are damn good! Try to digest them. The enchilada is not far from those CDs.
By the way, I have no patience when it comes to reading. My preparation was for 3 months. Pray for me that I won't flunk this thing.

Moslem Doctor, I meant Psychiatry and ethics stuffs. They were everywhere.
anuba, I read UW explanations two months ago. It wasn't just fresh in my mind. That was what I tried to say. The best way to do it, hammer it again and again. Make notes of your own-ofcourse so many people said this repeatedly.

dr ruman, that is where I fail in every exam. I hate to memorize things. Keep it up...don't give up on memorizing. Memorizing is a centre for Medicine.
genbot, I just realized I misspelled 'Budwieser'. You're right. I'm getting to the upper limit of 20s.

Update: I just recieved my score. I'm not that happy about it. But I PASSED.
