Clofibrate has several benefits . one of them is it decreases serum cholesterol levels . What it does is it mobilizes cholesterol from the storage sites and and brings them in to the main stream from where they bind to bile salts and get excreted in to bile from gallbladder. Due to clofibrate's increased mobilization concentration of cholesterol in bile is increased which predisposes to gall stones. concuurent administration of deoxycholics helps prevent this.
