hi all,
i have done my diploma in ophtha-2004, from india and now residing here.i had a career break too from 2005 till now.
i am in a confused state of taking up step exams.

do i have a chance of getting in to direct fellowship once i finish my steps?

or do i need to do my residency again?

what r my opportunity in research/non clinical ophthalmology in united states?

what should i do?i am already upset of my career break and dont know where to start again.

or should i forget that i have done my post graduation and start fresh for my step 1?

can anyone suggest me pl?

thanks.

Let me ask you this question first....WHY are you trying to go to the
US? Do you have a home/family there that you want to work there? What is the reason that you are inviting all this stress to yourself if you are already well settled in your country?raised eyebrow

I have done my diploma in ophtha-2004, from india and now residing here---does the "here" mean US?
Well, vidraj, even for fellowship only u need step 3...even if u dont need a visa (u need it for the state license) and for step 3 u need all the others...so steps u will have to take

try the above two from usmletoMD site....what they say is basically that it is possible but very difficult....also ophtha is a surgical branch that makes it even more comptetitive

research u will have better chance in ...though u might have to take GRE

it is easier to just go for branches like IM, FP and peds...however if u like ophtha and want to give it a try u should! All the best...
