I agree with Drweather. I was in a very similar position. Because of my research I was invited for IV to places, where my chances as an IMG were really slim. In two of my interviews I was even the only IMG invited this interview season. Can you imagine, what chances I had to match there? I was scared to death waiting for match results, because I knew I made a mistake applying to programs which were too good for me. I think you have a really good plan, Anamgarcia. Unfortunately we have to learn from our mistakes, but I'm sure you will match next year.

Anita, Cami, Oxy... i understand how you feel... i am on the same situation... but let me tell you a short story: I have this guy friend from Mexico, he was doing research in the same place I was... well not really, a different PI and different "contact" if you wish. He worked his way in such a manner, that he got a couple of papers (not first author), and LORs from top notch people on Harvard... his scores were above 90 but Step 3 was 70s... anyways... he interviewed in this place where we thought it would be a dream to match... we thought it would be impossible... because of being an IMG, because of needing H1b... etc... Guess what? he matched. #4 program in the country for OB/Gyn. The only latino in his year. And he's getting H1b. So, do not think you aimed too high... if they call you for IVs is because they believe they will eventually rank you... programs do not waste time... they just reject applications. So, keep aiming reasonably high (in this case was reasonable since he worked there).... BUT OPEN YOUR POSSIBILITIES with less competitive programs... At the end... you can match on your first choice or your last... just as well. Besos.

hola werther.... you are right... that is the plan for next year... I am a very stubborn latino girl... but most definitely not stupid. Next year I will knock on the academic programs door again, but will also dive in the waters of the community programs.... it is OK if you loose and you learned, you didn't loose after all...
