Dear Ferrero....FYI, the programs in OB/GYN generally don't have score requierements ( except for the very competitive ones) if on top of that you are GC holder you are set. GL

unfortunately my friend I can't answer that question for you. But I can tell you that being a GC holder will open the doors for you almost anywhere in the US, BTW where do you live?

hello kare.... dont you let an attempt kill your confidence... as you said, there are some moments in our lives where things just don't go wright. That doesn't mean a thing... and on top of that you have a great second attempt score... I will not be worried at all. did you have IV? I see absolutely no reason for you not to match. If by chance you are not going to this years match... try to get USCE this year and you will make a great candidate GL

Doctor 99 I got confused and just now realized that you are nit GC holder... I can tell you that most comunity programs will go for H visa... for the university programs, I am afraid, that most (or at least the one that I went to) only offer J visa. If I were you ( and I am in your shoes anyway) I would not care, because a waiver is really easy to get being an OB, since many people are not delivering babies due to the high liability.... so a waiver is really an easy step in our field. Does that answer your question? probably not. the short answer is I dont know for sure.

Hi Ana, I am feeling really hopeless... you had 8 ivs and didn't match, with all the papers, the first time takes, the USCE in OB... what went wrong? just the scores? can that be so damaging? My credentials are not so great either... Step 1 86 Step 2 82 Step 2 CS Passed on second attempt (don't ask) Step 3 78 Two papers submitted... Completed residency in OB/GYN in Buenos Aires Two years Fellowship in clinical research on women's cancers at Harvard... 6 weeks subinternship the Gyn Onc floor. Wonderful LORs, high profile people. I have a hard time figuring out the balance of my application. On the one hand I know that some of the items i mentioned are really good, but on the other... I am really worried about my scores and that ridiculous fail in CS, which can be hard to explain to a US PD... they may not understand that to us, sometimes, it may not be clear what are we expected to do in such an unusual/controversial way of examination. I had two lucky interviews after applying in late October w/o ECFMG. Got it early December... Step 3 result during the match week. AND I DID NOT MATCH. Not that I did not expected it... okay? But I am hesitant about pouring effort and thousands of dollars AGAIN with the black spots in my appl. I'm sure you'll match next year. People at least called you. Thanks.

Dear werther.... Darling you ARE already an OB..... I think I targeted very big programs and didn't care too much about the community programs, thinking that I did great at the big places... next year I am definitely targeting the small programs more intensely, and lets see what happens.... Also I never really practice medicine after graduation, I am stuck in this non sense science and that is not so important for gynecologists lets keep the faith and maybe next year we will match

Ana I think you are on the right track! I think here it's a great deal about 1) being American, 2) contacts, 3)foreigners will get what's left. That is my impression about this whole match stuff. So what might have happened is that because of your research you were called to better programs that, at the end, will choose americans. Even that tiny program we went to in Jamaica/Queens remember?? Did you see the residents? Most were Americans. How about the french couple? They did medical school here...and isn't it weird that they both got the same place??! Don't be mistaken...foreigners here are ONLY to fill the gaps. They will choose worse qualified americans without blinking! So get some rest, raise your head and try next year to everywhere. Your husband will be done by nest year won't he? Then you can move anywhere else! You will match I am sure! Don't give up. Send me an email so that we can exchange numbers! I am learning spanish!! Besos!

Cami.... you are so very sweet... it is true.... I forgot for a second, and I did believe that I had a chance in the academic programs. but I am not making that mistake any more.... next year I will go to the tiniest place if I have to, but I will be a bloody OB/GYN.... anyway... thnaks for cheering me up... my hubby said that next year we will go to nebraska if we have to.. that sounds good to me no more freaking crazy NY
