My husband is on B1/B2 visa, he applied for this year match but didn't get any interviews, he'll try for scramble/post match. he has to leave by March 20, so should he file for extension for his stay? What are his chances for this year's residency. He has passed step 1,2 CK and waiting results for step 3.

I dont understand.. you are hoping to extend visa so that he can finsih paperwork and start residency in July or.. incase he does not match.. for spetember 1 aplications and observership opportunities? If it is for the first reason then : position in IM is very difficult to get in scramble. One can certainly be lucky. Saying that. match is on 17th and scramble days are 18/19th.. he will know what happens. Can he not book a tickete anyways.. if he scrambles he can try to do paperwork and leave and apply for work visa. If he wants to stay here so that he can apply in next years match.. I am not sure.. depends on what ur resources are, regarding staying in US and wait till next year this time and apply for match and attend interviews. also with extension there have been problems in past in obtaining J1 visa...

thanks Moozy for ur advice, he wanted to extend his stay so that he can take part in Scramble, but I guess it's better for him to take part in scramble on 18 and 19 and leave on 20. he can always come back again as he has multiple visa for five years.
