Anyone know the mechanism behind patients developing hyperglycemia with hereditary hemochromatosis?

Is it because of the pancreatic fibrosis? It's what only makes sense to me.

Tiff:, hope that this information may help:

"Hereditary Hemochromatosis is often caused by mutation in the Hfe gene on chromosome 6.

This disease is characterized by hemosiderin deposition and organ damage in the liver, pancreas, myocardium, and multiple endocrine glands as well as melanin deposition in the skin all resulting in the triad of

1.-Micronodular cirrhosis (Liver)

2.-Diabetes Mellitus (Pancreas)

3.-Skin Pigmentation

This set of findings is reffered to as "Bronze Diabetes".
