thank you sallukashif, and kalyan. i need all your support, and advice.

kashif, many questions were not straightforward, you answer upon your best educated guess, which must be weak in my case, in my exam i got all those scenarios, patient comes with this problems, he/she has this vitals, and then they either asked whats the pathophysiology of his/her disease, or what is the moa of the drug you will give, this kind, i felt uw was better, but nothing exactly. i didnt remember nbme much, so, i cant say. but i got many lengthy questions, which we dont see in nbme much. but i think if you know your subjects very well, you can succeed, i really like to say something, that will help you, but i dont know what to say, other than study HARD!

antidepresssent?

  #7

Hi, anti depressant,
I too just received my score. It is 68/170. I am soooo depressed. My behavioural science and genetics were really bad. I would also love to receive tips from those who have been through the same path.
I wonder if it is really so easy to get a 99 as it appears on this forum.....

sallukashif, i myself dont know, one 99er told me, memorizing dont help, but again, i saw some people did get away with better guessing ability. i am not the person to answer, i hope, some people in this forum, will come forward to answer this, will you please.

Ashar, you know i feel the same, i got 66, 165. yes, i dont know, how to score higher, but i will like to get tips also. how did you do in pathology? i did bad, in 3 ps.

Hi antidepressant.dont loose hope and work hard next time.By the way what u scored in nbme?may be i can find out what was wrong with ur preparation!

  #10

thanks lonely, my nbme 3 score was 166(310) 2 weeks before and my final score was 165. but the score sheet is totally different from nbme score sheet. In nbme, behavioral science was my highest performance area, and i did ok in renal and respiratory, but bad in anatomy. In final score sheet, i did very bad in behavioral, also renal and respiratory and only improved in anatomy.

my patho, pharma, physio didnt change.

micro went towards bad side more.

Hi.antidepressant.try all kaplan with golgian for pathology and high yield for anatomy section.nbme gives u an overall idea of ur preparation and ur expected marks. so before exam take nbme but if u score low then u can avail other option of postponding the exam and then work hard for that and better if u can find a study partner

hey AD ....just think in this way that you are only 9 percentile( 17 q's )away from passing but this time you goal suld be in 90's and that you are gonna build on the top of your 66 as ur already fresh from some of ur material right now so what i think that you suldnt take a long prep time now and try to study for 3-4 months max hardcore and take you test again cuz otherwise all you knowledge will be mundane after long prep...disapprovaltrust me im talking this from my own experience cuz there was once tht i knew my beh. science and biochem inside out then i toook too long of a break like 4 months or so and then i picked up the book again i didnt remember even 50% of it disapprovaldisapproval....same with physio so i have realized it in hard way that you need to pressurize your brain hard but for short period of time .....you wont beleive that i knew my physio ,biochem ,B.S and even pharm so well that i was getting 70-80% in questions but my mistake was that i took almost 4-5 weeks to do each subject at my own leisure reading like 3-4 hrs daily and sometimes not thinking that i will know it better but by the time i was on my next subject everything became volatile and i became very frustrated at the end cuz it took so much of my time disapprovaldisapproval....so according to me you suld force urself for hardcore study schedules and not for tooo long cuz then we become lazy and lose intrest (well its only my opinion and yu dont have to agree with it ) ....so get ready for it again and see what strategy suits you the best dear ....
gooood luck

I have just received my step I result. Failed at 145. Is there any hope for me. I finished the USMLE WORLD once and I went through the most Kaplan videos and Goljan Audios. I also worked through the Rapid Review of Pathology. My worse subjects were Physio and Biochem. I sincerely appreciate any advise... Thanks

Hi!1 AD.Terribly sorry about what happened. we all know u worked really har. Since u've already laid the foundation i guess the only course of action is to build up on it. Start day one with questions. do all kinds of questions from every where possible.UW,Kap Q Bank, NMS, NBME what ever u can lay u r hand on.May be after all the studying u just need to go into Question mode.Since u know u r stuff maybe figuiring out the ans is where u went wrong so just don't give up and get to work on the questions. And since all of the stuff for step1 is still fresh in ur mind i think u should get to work right away.

All the best i'm sure u will bounce back with a 99 this time.

sorry about your exam.

now it is time to rebound...

about UW, I did it twice-almost- and it is not enough...t

About Kaplan, I almost studied for 6 months, now I realise I forgot most of the beginning... My plan now is to do seriously 3 other reading in less then 3 months and go for the exam...Lenghty prep is a killer

U can do it...a day at a time

good luck!

hi there. i am so sorry you feel so upet, i can sympathize.

i would suggest figuring out your weaknesses and spending the most time reading on those. do not focus too much on subjects you know well, it is good you will know them better, but your weaknesses will then still remain what holds u behind.

i suggest giving a good read with FA . what i do sometimes is, instead of reading a subject for one whole month. i read it quickly once, n then i reread it, n see what parts i retained n what parts i need to focus my attention on.

be realistic in your learning. i listen to one kaplan video and then , take a break for an hour and read what i just listened to, through the kaplan books. it helps. if you just take in a lot of information but do not try to reread it and see how much you understood from the listening-you might have it pourin out of your ears. that happens to me with audios . so take little breaks to recap what you just learnt.

also it helps to do questions along the way. to see if you are grasping what you learnt.
what i did was make cuecards on the tough topics. then at the end of a read, i see if i can answer those cue cards.

starbrite, as always you give excellent advices. i support the same.

heard somewhere that when one reads new material, one forgets >80% of it in 24 hrs, so within 24hrs you revise it and it sticks in your memory for a long time. it happens with me (may not be exactly same, because the material is not entirely new).

so read, reread, and reread.

thanks a lot starbite, thats very good idea. thanks bioguy . I havent checked this post in a while, sorry for late reply. Today i was just going through, to find pros and cons of changing book for pathology, i read kap, but listening Goljan, many people says read rapid reveiw, many people said, its ok as long as you are listening Goljan. I am little confused, because what if I dont like rapid review, and someone told me, he didnt succeed even reading rapid reveiw several time. i dont know, i dont think i can read this whole new book in short time.

i wish i had a data of people telling the difference it made in 2nd attemp, about changing books.

Hi AD! I failed my exam also...now I am preparing myself for the 2nd attemp.Ijust want you to know you are not along...
There are a lot of people who failled but there are a little who will report this...

  #25

you are right sigh, i am interested to know those who succeeded 2nd time, and how, but i dont find many posts like that, yesterday i spend 2 hours looking for this, didnt help, GL to you. have you any plan of change, you know what, one thing bad about failing, you loose your confidence, and you want to follow everything, and that is what i am afraid, i dont just want to get a new book, if i dont use it, just buy it under peer pressure, smiling face
