hey paheli,man,congratssssssssssss,visa 10yr ME,kya baat hai i recently heard on eof local buddy cudnt get visa,gave her some stupid reason,u r young,u may settle there,we cant  sorry,all she was confident but didnt work her luck,so man its luck as well....now she will again laterz,she has to...well anyways.....greattttt news,and some hope indeed 
yeah here too hot as well,coping w/ it like--->sleeping,who cares its hot outside lol j/k
when is step 2 coming up,i got the date.jully 1st week(atlast phew)before all booked at gurgaon.

ur welcome snowdrop....yeah, its unbelievably hot and the electricity is a joke out here where i am....but we get kalbaisakhi a lot and the storms are awesome to watch...will miss monsoon at states i guess (if i ever mange to reach there that is with my visa paperwork taking sooo long)....anyway ppl, happy baisakhi and happy bengali new year!!

It must be "hot" at your place..but here in rajasthan its "boiling" already...
i need some help with visa application.....RX n paheli you could guide me...
i got the HDFC receipt today..
1.i m planning my visa iv on 6 june....coz i'll get my step-1 result bythen and i already have step-2 result....my CS is on 2 july and i m planning to leave on 16 june.....i hope i m not applying late...should there be a considerable gap between the date of departure and visa iv? i'll have just 10 days....
2.in the DS-156 form they ask "the place where you are going to stay"?
should i just write some hotel in atlanta? or write my dad's friend's address where i m going to stay. Infact i m going to stay at my dad's friend's house for 10-12 days and then go to atlanta 2 days from the test and stay in a hotel....
in the DS form and in the actual visa IV should i disclose that i have friends in USA who'll help me? or pretend that i dont know anyone? becoz i heard that disclosing contacts to the VO could create problems....
3. duration of stay....
i am writing a short duration- 2 weeks...but may i overstay, if i convince the port officer?

from what i remember of my experience:
1.u can leave india from the day u get ur passport back ( max 3 days) so 10 days shuld be ok
2. mention the exact address of where u plan to stay, 'some hotel' address isnt accepted
in a way they are relived if u have family or freinds their...u are going on a b1/b2 i am assuming so they dont really think u'll become an illegal immigrant their, and having contacts their means u'll possibly not do illegal work their to earn money, i was asked this question and i said i have my sister their and she has many friends who will help me...worked out alright for me at least!
3. if u write 2 weeks u may be asked at port why u now are saying u need to stay for longer ...if u have an answer for that like i decided to do some tourism too, or i got an observership for this duration then its fine
but ppl with more recent experiences should be able to guide better

Hi, lakshya. I think mukho got it all right.
1. You can leave for US the day after you get you passport back, just factor in the courier time gap.
2. I would go with the friend's address, if I were in your shoes. It's better to give them a proper address than a commercial contact.
3. Regarding the duration of stay, they may ask at IV, but your I-94 will only be stamped at your port of entry in to the US. If you are only mentioning CS, then better not to ask for more, they will wonder. As mukho said, add on some tourism, they are less likely to refuse. Btw, that's what I did too.

Kg, so good to see you. I know you've been busy. Good. Happy Vaisakhi!! Regarding my visa, yeah, everyone around me was worried whether I'd get it. Seems that young single females are suspicious. We go and get married  [to all those supposedly hot American guys ] and stay for ever and ever.........AS IF YEAH RIGHT ! Anyway, on another topic, I never did get through that guy, re. No reply to my email either. I'm just using the pdf. Thanks a lot!

i had taken a letter from my friend who used to stay in chicago but stays in diff state now..used his old address in chicago..dont worry u will get visa..

but be careful dont lie about ur days of stay...it doesnt matter if u get 6 month in port of entry..first visit stay no more than u promise in visa interview..

hi USMLE topper ..seems like we are in a similar situation...
if i write my dad's friend's address in the DS-156....so i need to get some letter from them ? like letter for invitation?is it necessary or i can do without it too...
and about my sponser....my dad is going to pay.....so do i need to produce MY bank account details too for the iv? i do have a substantial amount in my account...can i pay for myself?I dont earn and all the money in my account is my dad's

from what i understand usmletopper, u cant hide the fact that ur sister is in US, cause they will ask u if u have relatives there and saying no would amount to lying, which is never a good idea...if she is sponsoring u then she needs to send u a letter of invitation, her bank and income tax papers and a I-124 form which she will get notarized...it sounds like a lot but is pretty straight forward...
Lakshya, if u are staying with ur dads friend it is better to let them send u a letter of invitation and yes if u dad is the sponsor then his bank statements and property and income tax return papers should be provided...it takes a bit of work but in the long run makes everything smoother...

Hi everybody !!
I m very much new to this site....currently i m doing residency in internal medicine at sms Jaipur...last year. I m interested in Rheumatology....in India, training in this speciality is not available at much of institutes...not even at aiims. what i was thinking of...to do some fellowship in rheumatology from usa & come back India. But i dont know is this a feasible option??? How to proceed?? r steps necessary??

Hey everyone!!!!!!!!!! I am new to this site and really a very amazing site tooooooo. I too am from India and I am taking my step2 CS first of all the steps and that is in June9, 2008. Can anyone help me out what study material shall I have to follow.

u dont need much academic knowledge for CS preparations, just FA practise is mostly enuff from medicine point of view...so its ok as long as u are eligible for the exam without step1 and 2CK...am not too sure bout that...For CS what u need it tons of practise, a ready smile and good communication skills...so all the best and welcome to the forum
