Hey, RX. I don't have the same situation as you i.e. regarding deg cert or transcripts, but I had my Visa IV this past week, and I breezed through it. It was no big deal. Most important is that you must go with confidence and look confident. Don't be shifty or nervous, it raises their alarm even if there's nothing to hide. In fact, for me, they did not ask to see a single document! I was shocked, and I actually wanted to go back ant tell her: :Hey, check my papers!" coz I'd spent so much time preparing and revising my folder and my answers! So, stay cool and you'll sail through . Oh, and don't forget a prayer to the one upstairs, coz yes, luck does matter. Waiting to hear your good news. All the best!

Well, I was in the 9am appointment block. They were running a little late, it seems, so I was only called in at ~10.30. But, the lady was super-efficient. She just asked me general stuff like my age, my profession, why I was travelling to the US, whether I had any family there, where in the US I was planning to stay, with whom. That's it. Incidentally, she did not ask to see my CS Confirmation Notice nor the ECFMG letter which you can use if you face any difficulty. She did not ask to see my Step 1 Score sheet either. I was particularly apprehensive about the fact that I have not been working since last year, but fortunately, that did not come up. She did ask about my and my family's wealth and assets, but did not request for any proof. I got a 10-yr ME visa.

Hey everyone, I'm planning to apply for the match next yr and like everyone else I am looking for observerships/research experience. But when i get someone to agree for research experience, they ask me if i can arrange for a work permit. Does anyone have any idea bout a work permit (temporary or otherwise) other than H1b...coz probably H1 doesnt make sense for a 2 month research project...Please respond as soon as u can as I have to respond to them with an answer. Thanks a lot

Hi.. is there a way for us to do a part of our clinical internship, like say for a month in US ?? So we can gain USCE and also be finishing internship at the same time?

Akshat: I don't think you can do a clerkship in US in place of your regular internship. You can take a break and do it, then come back and resume. That means your finish date of internship will be delayed, but in my opinion, it is time well spent. All the best. drshvetasm: I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your query. I hope someone else does. Good luck.

Thanks Paheli and RX135.. that helps. Doing clerkships in addition to the internships will not allow me to meet the various deadlines of the process. Am an indian citizen, so guess thats the situation for all of us. You know anyone who has gotten residency directly after internship without spending an extra year. Thanks again... let me know if I can be of any help. I have already done a 4 weeks rotations in US in 8th semester. Thinking of doing again after final year. that way can give CS also at the same time.

"akshat, schedule ur clerkships after ur internship dont take a break in ur internship...but apply 6 month in advance" hey rx135, this means its possible to be a GRADUATE and still do ELECTIVES, by applying as a STUDENT. Are you sure about this? Because most univs say "student has to be in the final year at the time of electives".....

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but perhaps, they need you to APPLY and get ACCEPTED while still a student?

wat i meant u have to apply when u are a student(can be during ur internship)obvious ur dean wont sign ur application....but schedule it after u finish ur internship...many from my school do it..i was one of the fools not sendin my applications thinkin to get good scores in steps...university in usa dont bother to check if u have graduated at t time of joining

i think they want us to be attached to the home med school at the time of electives, so no matter when you apply or get accepted, at the time of persuing the electives one has to be a "student". but i want, what rx135 said to be true

i agree with lakshya. once you get the degree you are a doctor and things get complicated after that. better to finish ur electives before the graduation day. This is what I gather from the various forums here.
