Hi all,
I want to give my step 3 in April after MATCH result. I just want to finish it off before joining residency. I dont have any visa issues. Is it advisable to do so ?
What happens if I match with a program and then if I dont pass step 3.....does it affect the residency contract or anything ?

when you match its final. failing it could still affect possible future endeavors tho such as getting a fellowship..

I believe most of the programs, if not all, require that you have to pass step 3 before moving to PGY-3. And as you can imagine how busy you are during the residency, it is advisable to take it before starting your residency.

biggy,
I doubt step 3 scores matters at all... For fellowships other things are far more important- research, LORs,CONNECTIONS, where you did your residency etc...

I am planning to do the same thing: I don't need a visa, but I will try to sit for step 3 end of march, just to ge it over with....

You are right medicus, I was thinking on the same lines that why not finish it off before joining.....yes I think I will go ahead and give the exam in april.
