While applying for step 3 the FSMB site asked us to start a FCVS application where all our med credentials would be verified and kept permanently so that every time we needed to apply for a license or a job we wouldn't have to go thru the whole med credential verification process. Sounded like a good idea, so given that some of the states I have applied in have long licensing requirements before clearing someone for residency (iowa and massacheusetts) and that i think the H1B visa gets thru only after the licensing gets thru...i felt having a profile on the FCVS would be useful. However, I dont know if others are doing this and if it is useful or not. It does cost money, about 400 dollars, and requires us to send in the original passport for identification (something I am understandably a lil queasy doing)...so thought I'd ask what the opinion of forum members is and if anyone has done this before Match results are out. I know it is a bit presumptous on my part but with the kind of time my Medical School takes to verify anything one cant be too careful!

Hey, I came across the same thing- wanted to apply to get into that databank, but for whatever reason they denied me acces, although I have applied for Step 3 and have my sched. permit already. Haven't had time to call their customer service yet...Also I did not know it is suppose to cost us (so much) money! It was not mentioned anywhere....Anybody else who had experience with FCVS?

i too had initially some problems with starting an account but I wrote that to the email they have provided and then my account got activated...maybe u should try that...it cost 350 total but some extra for fdexing ur passport back internationally and 50 more for paper application... PG experience has to be of US s maybe once we know where we are matching (as hopefully will b the case) only then cn that portion be filled... its a relatively new program and so maybe not too many people have experiences right now...but seems like it would be very convenient...

It is very dependable service being widely used for job applications during after residency. Most of the licensing bodies will accept FCVS verification. One of my seniors used it for his radiology fellowship. Its one time investment and one time verification of home documents. There is some 30 to 50 $ charge for later individual verification for rest of life. First time charges are i think near 600 which are being given as reduced package of 350 with step3.
