hi, I just took the step 1 today, many behavioral science, neuro and experimental questions. exam was not comparable to nbme or uw, very little clinic alot theory. if you take the test in frankfurt don t forget to take earplugs with you.

Hi Setareh, as I'm taking step 1 on the 27th i'm seeking some information from recent test takers. Do you mean it was tougher than uw and nbme, or just different? Experimental questions? You mean those which won't count? Behavioural sience in terms of biostat or "real behavior science"? What was the level of those, I heard diffenrent opinions so far... Would be glad to hear from you, swabian greetings, viergewinnt

it was not tougher or easier than uw but the questions were completly different. i have done uw, nbme, robbins and kaplan - no qbank is comparable to questions in real exam, very theoretical, just a few very easy clinical questions. i mean with experimental questions, questions about experiments. for example you have a hamster and you resect his nerve and do it in solution a, what will happen to transmitter x... two biostat questions and around 35 "real behavioral science" questions! for me they were difficult as i am an img.

Dont be scared folks!!! I took my Step 1&2 in Frankfurt about 9mo ago and it went totally fine (double 99). You will always feel very bad when you exit the center, but if you scored high in NBME or UW you will also score high in the real exam. It was like this for me and it will be like this for you. Just focus on the important things and dont spend too much time w/ statistics and behavioral sciences. There are important mechanisms to understand, but the real exam is a pretty good mix of all topics. Also: many questions are experimental although you dont know which of them. Just take a good long break after the 4th block (psychologically very helpful!!!) and go through it. Good luck for you all. P.S.: you dont need ear plugs. They provide you with all kind of noise protection.

have just received my score 243 / 99 NBME 1 610 (month before exam) NBME 2 650 (week before exam) UW 72 overall Kaplan 76 overall i have prepared for step 1 mainly with first aid. i think it is important that you know really everything by heart. i have also used the robbins pathology question book, it is really very good. in my opinion kaplan (except behavioral science) and goljan are not so useful. i have also used the apex pharmacology notes and found them useful. try to make as many questions as possible although thy are not like real exam but you ll get a feeling for them PS: you absolutely need ear plugs because you ll just get a head phone!
