Hello, Arlete:
I took CS yesterday in PHYLLI. I made big mistakes. I feel really depressed now.
I did not sleep well the night before my test. I was a little bit nervous when I started my first pt, and I was OK since the 2nd pt encounter. The biggest MISTAKES was I did not say "do you have any Q or concerns" in almost all pts in my closure. I did not realize it until the I finished the 11th pt. My last pt was a depression pt. I was so distracted by my mistakes that I did not show enough empathy and I did not council the pt at the end.
Otherwise, my encounter was generally ok. I had a cut on my hand. So everytime before my PE, I explained to pt that I needed gloves because of my cut, and I asked whether or not the pt is allergic to gloves.
I am worried that I may fail. I feel really bad.

You don t need to be perfect to pass. There s no use thinking about it now, it s done, so keep your mind busy with something else (more positive) until the result comes.

Sign up for Skype and use it to practice online. That s what helped me a lot.

I started to practice with Skype as you said, and I have improved a bit. But I still haven't started the patient notes. Sometimes I do hesitate while practicing, and I wonder how it is going to be the day of the exam- August 8.

Arlete ur exam experience has been a great help for me..
thanks for this thread.
i have a ques though..
while writing PN did u follow FA pattern or UW pattern.like in uw the findings of each system has been written in detail..like whille doin respi UW mentions abt Inspection palpaltion percussion etc ..but in FA only clear breath sounds heard bilaterally..
and also how do we write MMSE in PN ..just alert and oriented times 3 or shud it be written in detail too like cud count from 7to 1 bakward etc.
i wud really appreciate ur help.

It all depends on the CC. If it's a pulmonary case, describe the pulmonary exam in details. If you did the MMSE, you thought it was relevant, you should describe it in details too. If it's another case (joint pain, abdominal pain, etc), then a general view is OK.
I would say I followed FA, mostly.

i m retaking my cs in aug 3rd week....could u plz give me some advice?
earlier i failed in CIS...
i did history taking part good PAMHUGSFOSS good did counselling in each case there n then with social H/O....
then did examination...only relevant...
then closure...
but i was not able to complete my 3 cases in time....n so i failed...
i think the reason behind my failure was i dint close 3 cases and din do summary...
so my questions are
1.is it necessary to do summary in every case?
2.and did u tell the SP the investigations u wud like to do....coz i always said "i wud like to do some blood tests and some imaging studies".....is this line correct....or should i tell pt i will be doing Xrays or CT/MRI
arlete my history taking withcounselling takes abt 9 min....
should i cut down on my history part.....?

Arlete, this is Feefeel. I passed CS. I could not believe my eyes. I have made so many mistakes, one of which I am even ashamed to even think about. I checked my result three times today to make sure "Pass" is real. Anyway, thanks a lot.
