yes, Anne. Most of my 13 partners weren't doctors. Through the phone it is the same as live, except you can't do the PE, you only describe it. Ok, SOS, I'll be waiting.

draashna: I never said "I'll be asking you some questions and doing a PE" but if you feel like doing it, it's OK. It's not right or wrong, it's a matter of style. Hi, tikka. I posted a lot of tips already, something specific you wanna ask? Don't be scared, you know what to do and how to behave in front of a patient. Just forget it's a test, act as if they were real patients and you want to help them and you want them to come back to talk about the results of the tests. You are selling yourself, show them how worthy you are.

Hi Arlete, Does it matter in what sequence you ask the questions about presenting complaint. For ex: case of Headache - mnemonic is LIQORAAA - but its logical to ask how long he had headache before asking for location, right? or it really doesn't matter?

draashna: Sorry. I really did. Well, you start the exam away from where the patient said the pain is. If you have to test Murphy's sign and the patient already showed pain on palpation, ask if he can bear only a few more seconds, because it's very important to check something. If he says OK, do the Murphy, if he says no, say OK and write down on the PN "Murphy not elicited due to patient refusal". Another thing you can do is do the deep palpation and the rebound at the same time, then you ask "did it hurt more when I pressed or when I let it go?" so you touch the patient the minimum possible. I think "douching" is a layman term. The third question we can talk about, Maybe it's more about attitude than words.

bioguy: It doesn't matter as long as you get all the pertinent information. But it's good to have a logical sequence and sound organized. So when you are asking about past history, you don't go "by the way, about the headache..."

I had my CS today, and I know I made mistakes and I knew I will. I concentrated more on My ettiquetes, Communication skills and the counselling part. Lets see what God has for me. Thankyou arlete for your valuable advice that you have been giving from time to time.

"Regurgitation" is a layman term, you can use it. I din't have a telephone case, but I wouldn't knock, that would be silly... Hot flashes are treated with hormonal replacement therapy. But you are not supposed to treat the patients, so say something like that: "Mrs. X, I am going to order a few blood tests to check your hormone levels and confirm the diagnosis of menopause you may be going through. One of the options to treat your hot flashes is taking hormones. There are benefits and risks related to this medication that we are going to discuss once I have the results of the test, is that OK with you?"

Congratulations!!! Good job! I'm so happy for you. Where did you take the exam? When did you begin to study for the step 1? I beginning study now and I know it's a long journey. I don't know even if it's better to take the Step 2 CK before Step 1. Beginning is hard. I will like to know how much time will take me to pass all the tests. You are inspiring

Didi: I am not a good example for how long it takes. I have 3 kids and went through a lot during the preparation for the tests, so it's been a long journey. I graduated in 1992, so you can imagine there were things already forgotten long, long time ago. (I was like: "Krebs who?") So I started studying for step 1 in February 2006, passed in December 2006, then passed 2 CK in July 2007 and CS in February 2008 - Chicago. Worth every minute! But some people are able to tackle it all in one year. If I was only studying, that's what I would do. Good luck!

srita: I don't mind and actually I think it's better to do it your way. Maybe "regurgitation" is a popular word among moms only...
