hi, guys, count me in for match 2009.o

fmg old grad: 2000

step 1 93; step 2 ck 99; step 2 cs to be taken this may

need visa, starting observership at a private clinic this month

i'm a board certified internist in my home country and have been practicing as one until now.

i'd like to get into neurology (good luck to me!) or internal medicine.

may the force and fates be on our side.

2003 grad
Did 1.5 years of internship in my home country before coming to US for a postdoc position (research part of PhD that started in my home country).
Step 1 244/99; Step 2CK 256/99; Step 2CS pass; Step 3 243/99 (all first attempt)
Married to a US citizen, started GC process and should have it (conditional) for the match.
Have 4 US LORs (3 clinical).
Have 4 publications (1 first author), three more on the way.
Will have PhD as well by October.
Will apply to IM.
Couple's match with my wife - AMG, MD/PhD from top MedSchool - however, she wants pathology and I'm not sure whether the fact that we're applying for different specialties will make couple's match beneficial.

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks guys. When you look where we all were, and were we're heading to - it is just hard work that can bring us there.

Hi, I'm in 2009 match.
Someone told me that before starting with a residency program in the US is necessary to do the internship in the US. Is that true?
Thanks

  #90

Hi everyone,i'm in too nod

Dr Santamaria, its not at all compulsory to do an internship or anything else here but it would be great if u can manage an externship(assuming u are an img)/ clerkship/ observership here in that order to increase ur chances of matching...the previous 2 can only be done as a medical student...and observerships as a graduate.

  #91

Oks drshvetasm
Thanks for your explanations.
Good luck to everyone

  #92

Dr Santamaria...
I think that youir best chance is to take the time you need to get the greatest score you can get. mediocre scores will make the ophtalmology chance impossible. you just need to be THE BEST to actually aspire for this. My suggestion? finish your program in spain, take the exams slowily but surely and apply for next year's match. in the meantime you can get a year of basic reseach in eye things, that will make you a better candidate. Also, may I say this? if she really changed your life, marry her, and once you have your green card, many more doors will open for you. Good luck

I don't think is visa issues. I think I aspired to very competitive programs.... and didn't (unfortunatellly) follow up good enough the community programs. to be honest in OB they don't need too many people to fill the gap as shown in the stats published by NRMP. basically no positions left for scramble and only 20% of IMG accepted to the specialty. sad, but truth

I'm trying to take my last step (its the 2CK) in the 1st week of August so I can apply for the match on Sep 1st. However, if I have to delay my exam by 2 weeks, and end up applying in mid to the later half of September, will that greatly hurt my chances for getting interviews?......

Meanwhile I have my CS on Friday.....

I got 86 in Step 1, So far have done one externship in private practice/hospital (Internal Med), and I'm a US citizen. I graduated last June

Anyhow my main question is if its going to really hurt me if I apply in mid to end of September instead of the first week of Sep.

Many Thanks guys ! I don't know anyone who can really advise me so I really appreciate this website and all of your advice smiling face

Cheers

Forgot to mention that I'm an img (obviously) and that my first choice is IM and my second choice is Psychiatry. I actually love them both...but medicine somewhat more

Here's my situation,
Going for my dream FM.
IMG. Graduated 2003 CK 84/ CS passes, no USCE, no US LOR. Step 1 is planned for July15.
Do I jump into the match or do I wait until next year? I have 2 observerships booked but for December 08 and January 09. I am a US citizen.
