hi frens,
just a little bit of doubt
so far i had read that warfarin therapy leads to an increase in PT only. according to nms qbook it leads to BOTH PT AND PTT INCREASE
can some1 pls exp?

yes bothcause factor 9 from intrinsic system and factor 2 ,10 common pathway is inhibited.

but effect on pt(extrinsic)>ptt(intrinsic)

BOTH PTT and PT are affected, but PT is affected more.

Basically:
Intrinsic pathway is: factors 12-11-9-10-2-1
Extrinsic pathway is: factors 7-10-2-1

Warfarin inhibits the Vit K dependent factors: 2, 7, 9, 10 (three out of four of these are in the extrinsic pathway.
SO the extrinsic pathway (monitored by PT) is blocked more than the intrinsic (monitored by PTT)

This is why Warfarin increases BOTH PT and PTT, (but it increases PT more)!
