Is their a difference between atherombotic stroke and atheroembolic stroke in terms of pathogenesis, clinical presentation and treatment. thanks.

What is that? atherombotic? Never heard of it dude.

thrombotic stroke : it is due progressive narrowing of the lumen due to atherosclerosis and rupture of the atheromatous plaque which expose the vascular wall and induce platelet aggregation >> occlusion of the vascular lumen. the onset is acute ( within few hours ) ..... tx : aspirin , heparin only in stroke in evolution... embolic stroke : it is due emblism from the heart ... etc >>>>sudden occlusion of the vascular lumen. onset is sudden ( within mins ) tx: heparin in case of AF after CT brain ( to exclude hemorrhagic infarction ) the clinical picture in both cases depends on the vessel occluded

thanks dr wad so much I have a quest...stroke in evolution means that it already ocurred and the ischemic zone is expanding ..right?...whats the use of heparin then?
