Please tell me how does one apply for prematch. Is it through ERAS ? I'm very confused on this whole issue. Please help me.

you do not apply for prematch, PD (or other authorized person) OFFER pre-match during/after interview and you either accept or decline the offer.... no matching process involved.... pretty much like they offer you a job, and you take it or decline.... not all programs offer pre-match (i'd say very limited amount of programs do), and if you end up taking pre-match, you have to withdraw from match, and you do not go any further for other interviews.
it's like "would you like to be a resident in our program?" and you go "i would dye for it" and they go "here is the contract", you sign and hear "welcome to our program, looking forward to see you in June".
very short and oversimplified version and the end can be "i have no intentions to come for residency in your program" and everything in between.
the bottom line is, it's not official like ERAS, there is no special form for it, it's just a way to get into residency before everybody else dosmiling face given, you were offered such opportunity, which, as i mentioned before, does not happen everywhere, and not with everyone (even thought going through posts on this forum it might seem otherwisewink)

truedoc,

you still need to go through the application process. And get interviews. Like babydoc mentioned pre-matches are offered from the program directly on or after interview day. Not all programs offer a pre-match position( and prematch is only for FMGs), so you would have to investigate which hospitals do. In the IM forum there is a sticky topic about which ones can. If you accept an offer you sign a contract and withdraw from the match early on.

right, very important point (kind of obvious to me, but cold be missed by "newbie")

before you even think about pre-match, you apply through ERAS regardless, you need IV regardless, so the beginning is the same in all categories, the outcome varysmiling face
