Fellows,

call me stupid, but what is the usual and most frequent progression from USMLE Step 1 to becoming a proud American Citizen? How long does it usually last?

thanks,

The two aren't related. You can take all the steps and never be a citizen. Or you can be a citizen and never take any of the steps.

But, it could go like this:

1. Take and pass Step 1

2. Take and pass Step 2 CK

3. Take and pass Step 2 CS

4. Get ECFMG certification

5. Apply for programs through ERAS

6. Interview for residency programs

7. Do your residency in the USA

8. Find a sponsor for your green card conversion

9. After a while, you will be eligible to apply for citizen.

10. Study for citizenship exam.

thanks bbb,

and how do you get a green card?

When you finish residency, or when you work as a doctor for a while? Do yiou work with a work premit at first?

How long will it take until one gets citizenship status, from time when you start or finish residency?

Can my wife work until I am doing my residency?

Dude get a lawyer or get married to a Citizen fastest short cut ever ( you can hire such people wink )
The time taken depends all on your original visa and status proivded to you by hospital. Share some more details on this and you might get a proper advice.
