hi waqas i jsut started my prep and im planning on taking the exam in december. my study material are: FA physio - BRS or Kaplan havent decided yet path - BRS, i also have goljan rapid reivew but i guess its very thick, around 700 pages. im thinking of buying robbins reivew so for patho it will be robbins review plus BRS micro - kaplan bichem - kaplan behavioral science - HY bistatistics and HY behavioral science. i might get BRS also anatomy - kaplan pharma - kaplan and im gonna subscribe to kaplan qbank and UW im a 4th yr medical school graduating after 2 yrs but my background is not that strong now the thing is in ur advice u mentioned lots of books and lots of websites and DVDs and stuff but im that kindda person that doesnt want to confuse himself. i just want to stick to one thing and read it over and over.. for some subjects u mentioned more than 1 or 2 books. what im thinking is doing one book afew times is better than doing afew books once or twice. and another thing is, i kindda like BRS books i dont know why but i just feel comfortable with them but BRS is not a must i can read other books if needed, so if u think im wrong plz guide me. thats why im thinking abt BRS for phyio because i've seen so many ppl who used it and still scored 99. im planning on using the FA, kaplan Qbank and UW from early begining. now thats my plan. i dont know if im right or wrong but wat i need is ur advice.. wat u think abt my material, amount of time i have and my way of preperation. thanx alot

@ sandeep You are always welcome @SeYYeDo FA starting from the beginning would be fine. Wont harm scores physio - BRS or Kaplan havent decided yet ... BRS is old and doesnt contain the newer concepts of kaplan plus it doesnt touch all the high yield topics although it is much fun to read but its all in vain so wud suggest kaplan over here path - BRS, i also have goljan rapid reivew but i guess its very thick, around 700 pages. im thinking of buying robbins reivew so for patho it will be robbins review plus BRS ... RR is thick but it will help you for step 2. if you want to go in any other speciality than pathology for residency then step 2 CK scores matter more than step 1 BRS will also get you 99. So, doing RR and BRS wont make much difference as far as step 1 is concerned rather at some points BRS has more info than RR. YOu will definitely be gettin good scores in this part as in indo pak .. path is taught very extensively. Most of us use Robbins as core book so this combo is fine too. micro - kaplan ...I am completely fine with that bichem - kaplan ....fine if you were okay in biochem in your classes behavioral science - HY bistatistics and HY behavioral science. i might get BRS also ...HY is not very uptodate. I wud suggest you to do kaplan/BRS alongwith this. There is an increased tendency of BS questions in the exams these days. I had the most chunk out of it. Although my exam was very atypical. I got 10-15 questions in each block from BS. But usually it is there representing like 5 questions in each block. So better be ready for this portion. BRS is more extensive on the subject but not on biostats. I would suggest you to do biostats from high yield and UW. That will be fine in given circumstances. anatomy - kaplan ...fine! pharma - kaplan ...fine! and im gonna subscribe to kaplan qbank and UW......DO! all the best buddy. do let me know your scores and all the best I hope you wud remember me by then tc

for behvioral I would prefer BRS if you want me to make choices. Otherwise I would go for both to score high. Doing both does help but there are different type of people. Some cant take multiple inputs and read from many books. So for them, I think they should go for BRS because it has got more matter and more high yield points than kaplan. Rest you will know when you will be doin ethics questions on steps that nobody can help with them. Just a blurry idea can be put up by the books and that is it. There is nothin concrete when you attempt those questions. That was what I felt when I took the exam but BRS did help me at points. for patho ... I have seen people takin 99 with BRS only! Same goes for Goljan. All that I have found is that goljan is a hard to get book and BRS is an easier form. The problem arises when it comes to step 2 questions. GOljan helps for step 2 CK. plus there is increased tendency of step 2 questions appearing on step 2 exam. I dont know why haev they started doin that but it helps for those questions. I myself had questions with WHAT IS THE BEST INITIAL STEP and WHATS THE MOST APPROPRIATE STEP type questions. I have seen people getting EKGs which wasnt there a couple of years ago. Anyway all the best. I am not in favor of BRS as compared to GOljan but choosing any of them wont matter on your scores as far as step 1 is concerned. Just do it thoroughly and completely. Lastly sometimes, pathology becomes the major chunk of your exam and they test rare diseases as well. The probabilty of that is low but then goljan helps because the tables it has contain rare diseases. In case goljan really disgusts you, then go for BRS. otherwise do Goljan as it will help you later as well

By the same talking, i would to ask how can i improve my performance in the exam with NBME 2 score of 500. How can i do better in 1.-Behavioral science, 2.-Genetics (very low), 3.-General principles of health and disease, musculoskeletal, skin and connective tissue. FOR BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES YOU CAN READ BRS AND CONRAD FISCHER NOTES (100 CASES OF ETHICS) TO ENCHANCE YOUR SCORES FOR GENETICS, TRY GOING THROUGH KAPLAN ONCE AGAIN ALONG WITH DVDs. PLUS DO QUESTIONS ON THIS FORUM. YOU SHOULD HAVE ABSOLUTE CONCEPTS OF GENETICS. SOME PEOPLE DO HIGH YIELD MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AS WELL FOR GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH AND DISEASE. GOLJAN IS A GOOD BOOK. PATHO COVERS THIS PORTION. THIS IS COVERED IN PATHO. IF YOU ARE LOW ON IT THEN DO YOUR PATHO AGAIN.

Hi waqas im a bit confused and i really need your help i have all the videos for kaplan... i decided to do each book once then watch its video but i found it time consuming and im afraid that im just wasting my time with these videos so i decided to come to u and see wat u think so do u think its a good idea to watch all the videos? before, i was thinking... 5 days i finish the book, 3 days the videos, 1 day qbook, 1 day FA i'll be done in 10 days and i finish my first read for all the books in about 70 days which is 2 months and 10 days. but now when i started i see that the video needs more than 3 days.. and some times finishing a book takes longer than 5 days. so that means i finish my first read in 3 months (if not more) and im not sure if im gonna remember any of the info after 3 months! so im thinking of skipping the videos (maybe only watch the important ones) and try to finish my first read faster and start reviewing and doing questions is it better if i skip FA and qbook for first read also? so i finish my first read faster to have a general idea then i start doing qbook and FA with my second read i can finish each book in about 5 days so that means i start my second read after around 40 days. so wat do u think?
