I do not know the answer to the last question, though I understand that parents' or a guardian's permission is required to carry out non-emergency treatment of a child who has not yet achieved maturity. Does it not include treatment in a research study, in case the child suffers from a disease for which no cure available. This is the original question. A physician wants to study a group of children aging from 10-12 year old. Physician already got the consent from the parents. However, he didn’t discuss the study with the children. A child refused to participate. Should the physician force the child to participate?

Thank you for the clarification pr20. In the mean time I discussed the case with Dr Conrad Fischer, who also hold your opinion.

By the wayI do not agree with your answer to question number 2 (i.e. a doctor go for a court order to do the procedure on the mother). Mother has a right to refuse any procedure that involves her body, including a intrauterine blood transfusion.

yes,no,and no......... dr can provide lady can refuse anything whenit is being performed on her no matter what time of pregnancy she is in. inspite of the consent from parents maybe the child has a fear factor or some bad dream regarding the study to be carried out or anything...i think his decision/willingness not to participate in the research should be honored.i dont think anybody can force him.
