The program Director of the program i am most interested in sent me an e-mail saying that he would rank me high. I know what this means literally but does it also mean that i will definitely match in that program if i rank it #1??

there is no guarantee that you will match in that program even if they tell you that they will rank you #1...

Don't forget, PD's tend to send it to the top 40 or so of his choice to make sure he gets the best of the crop. So rank it #1 because you like it, but don't be surprised if you do not match there.

Hi there,

I think that if the program is your #1 choice, then it's settled. It really does not matter much (in terms if you should rank it first, of course) what they tell you, though it's obviously very nice to hear from them. Keep in mind, that emails are very easy to send over to a large amount of applicants (some programs rank A LOT of people for their available positions). If you receive something such as a phone call/postcard/letter, this is undoubtedly a serious sign of interest. If you have a friend in the program who can provide reliable insider info, that's also pretty solid as well.
Bottom line - If you really liked it above other programs, then you should rank them first. Don't try to "read" their level of interest.

I hope this helps. Keep your spirit up!
Good luck in the Match!
