In twin pregnancy, if there are 2 placetnae, then it must be dichorionic if there is 1 placenta, it can be either dichorionic or monchorionic... can someone please explain why 1 placenta can be DC or MC?? thanks a lot...

I thoght placenta develops parallel with the chorion and depending on when the spliting occurs you have 1 chorion and 1 placenta/2 chorion and 2 placenta.

Dizygotic twinning -always dichorionic(2placentas) and diamnionic Monozygotic twinning: 1. dichorionic (2placentas), diamnionic 2.monochorionic (1placenta), diamnionic 3.monochorionic (1placenta), monoamnionic So, I think that number of chorions always parallels number of placentas
