A 32 y.o XX who is 36 weeks pregnant is told during a prenatal appointment that her fetus is a breech presentation. An external cephalic version ( manually turning the fetus from the outside) is scheduled for the following week. For this procedure, the uterus must be relaxed. Stimulation of beta 2 receptors causes uterine relaxation. Ritodrine is a beta 2 agonist. Terbutaline is also sometimes used.
