I need ur help n need some advice on what is the best job experience when applying to residency I am really confused Let me give u some more info on the MA job It is working as a Back n Front Office Medical Assistant at a senior care medical center. There are 7 doctors in that office with different specialties, ER, IM mostly. One also works partly at a hospital. They have another clinic they wnat me to also work, so I may go there at times. pays $14/hr (not very much to live on) Reasearch is related to Dementia ....Alzheimers. It includes taking neuro testing on elderly population, including travel to follow up on clients 90+ every 6 motnhs. Neuro testing such as MMSE and other test such as blood test guided by a protocol. This is a UCI, CA University/Medical based research team funded by the NIH. Its not all clinical per se but some clinical test as mentioned before. The Problem I am facing now is that the MA job was offered to me but it pays very little compared to the Research position (41000/year)., which I am not sure I will get yet. I do still have opprotunity to get into UCI temporary staffing position which also opens up opportunities for internal positions at UCI. I have to decide by tomoorow on the MA job and no idea how long or if I will even get the Research position. I am afraid to loose the opprotunity on the MA even though it pays little My biggest dilemma is what will look best on my resume eventually down the road. What do residency hopsital prefer as applicants. An MA job experience which may or may not lead to other experience with these 7 doctors or the research position which I may or may not get. I need all your expertise and experiences please, which is much appreciated.........

If you have been on board for a while here, you know that I don't do chances. You should know what you need to do to get into a residency. I just can't give specifics for you to base your life on - only you know what is best for you. Good luck

Why can't you start working as an MA untill the research position is yours for sure?

I worked as an MA for almost 2 years. Great learning experience, pay is ok, etc. However, most sources have told me that research looks much better on your application. How much better ? Couldnt tell ya. Probably depends per program. Usually, Univ. hospitals are more impressed than community programs. If it were me, Id go for the research spot. But if you cant get it, MA is great. I was asked at most of my IVs about my MA experience. Program directors were very impressed.........

Ashraf, Try searching at monster.com or careerbuilder.com. Plenty of MA positions available; just some offices are more anal, and want you to be MA certified. Others will see your medical background and consider you a great candidate for the position. As for research, you can check the 2 websites I posted, but usually it's luck of the draw. I had a hard time finding one, and it seemed that you needed connections more than anything to get a spot. However, Im assuming it depends on where you live and what hospitals are in your area. Good luck.
