I'm from Mexico and I applied for an ophthalmology residency position, but unfortunately I didn't match . Could an MPH in the US help me to improve my credencials and then re-apply for an ophtha position??? . Please, I need an advice because I'm thinking to take it!!! .

it will be just an extra credential on your application. It wont drastically affect your chances except that you have got an extra degree. I would suggest find out the loop holes in your application and correct them instead of running out to get another degree ( which will use up your precious time and money too!!!).

I was interested in doing an online MPH course during my residency (if I can squeeze in the time) and I too was wondering how much a MPH adds to ur credentials...for fellowships in my case...i mean my research skills arn't very well honed and if I could manage the money and the time would it actually carry weightage in terms of adding to chances of getting fellowships...??

it may depend on your credentials. if you have low USMLE scores, MPH won't do miracles. did you get interviews for ophthalmo? I don't feel MPH could get you into an ophthalmo program, but.... I guess what you should do is to ask ophthalmo residents (IMGs obvioulsy) what are your real chances and their recommendations. I'd think it's more important to have clinical experience in ophthalmo in a US hospital. anyways, good luck buddy

about fellowships in general, I don't think it would lead to a significant difference... it could have more "weight" in getting a residency than a fellowship (but again, it depends on the overall credentials and what the PD in that specific hospital is looking for) that's my feeling. Somebody could disagree, opinions are welcome.
