Hi guys, how are u doing? Hope well and GL to everybody in the match. its stressing and bored to be waiting ... newyg said the term "superbIMG"...a mixture of Superman and IMG...what are the characteristics of that rare specimen that is going to be "ranked high" by programs, who gets notes from all PDs calling to him/her and asking "do you have any question", who gets prematchs offers in every place he/she goes, that might go to the top notchs psych programs like MGH, etc. is the superb going to be ranked higher than AMGs? I want to start giving some Ideas; 1. Recent graduate, with former experience in psychiatry (a former resident or even an attending in psych) 2. Dont need visas at all (is a citizen or a GC holder) 3. Excellent communitacion skills and languague profiecieny not just in english (speaks "handy" languagues like spanish, polish, chinese, korean, etc...according to the geographical location he/she might be applying) 4. know the "american culture" because in psychiatry and when doing psycotherapy thats what you want, somebody who can feel empathy easily with their patients 5. Excellent scores. Like a song in youtube 99/99/99... ECFMG certified (haha); it emans that he needs to have Step 3 already taken even when he had never been AMGs are asked to have it the lasts years of residency 6. Research experience in the field, and if he/she has a paper published it would be even better 7. Being single so he/she can completely work for the program 8.Having USCE in a form of a Clerkship and with the respectives american LoR. If they are from somebody well known in the field, much better. 9. is applying just to psych so he is an ethical person (or at least is sure about what he wants; lets say he is applying to several specialties not because of fear of not matching but because dont know what he wants) 10. Excellent interview skills. He might read BBB comments about how to do well in interviews Do you want to add anything else? Or say wich are more important than the others?

x1. Can see through walls so that he can watch his patients without them knowing about that. x2. He can run ECT treatment with needing neither anesthesia nor any other staff. x3. If he ruins his psychotherapy session, he can fly around the world in the opposite way and turn back time so that he can run the whole session once again. x4. He should wear glasses when out of the hospital grounds and should look hideous with them. So that his patients can't recognize him outside and there is no transference issues. But when on grounds he should be damn sexy without the glasses and with a gallon of hair gel. x5. Some susceptibility to Krytonium is acceptable for PDs since we are all human and not a Superman!! : ))

Hey newyg what you are talking about?... hahahaha... I believe cuadrado_g is trying to find out how some applicants stand out. It's a good idea actually, because we can evaluate ourselves and try to improve the different aspects and for that we need to DIAGNOSE first and then TREAT or CURE... I still believe in the major role of personality. It matters WHO you are? Not only the criteria on paper. Some people focus a lot on objectives, but I believe subjective informations are very important for both PDs and applicants. Programs try to hire people to take care of people, not just smart asses who are cold. As Dr. Fischer said: It's better to be lively, friendly but stupid rather than being smart but not much emtion...because even our organic heart work while the brain is already dead, but the opposite doesn't happen. When heart stops we are dead.

I actually added another criteria Nadia, it is that an IMG should be familiar with the popular american culture(eg. superman) and preferably should have a good sense of humor.

nadia: you said something about personality, to have a warm heart...how you can improve that for the next time in the match? is anybody sooo bad person, dont cares of patients, etc? or when in IVs do we behave like "I am the boss, u must hire me, u will be lucky if I get in your program?"...how do you measure personality? are prematches (the most clear demonstration of interest) given in base of personality? Are not they proposed right away to the superb IMG?

cuadrado_g! Haven't you ever come back from your interviews and felt that you liked PD, residents, PC? Or didn't it happen to you that you didn't like PDs, PC, residents....How did you feel so? Did it mean that they were soooo bad with patients or you? and that's why you didn't like them?..people are different. You don't feel like working with every one whom you see and it is normal. So do you like everyone you see the same?! If you as a person gets diffferent feelings and conclusions from people whom you meet, so the programs can also feel however they like when they meet people and it depends on personality and the different tastes of course. But there are some common points. happy, genuine, confident, honest people with great communication skills get the best results. I saw in some of my interviews that some applicants don't show any interest and they don't interact with other people...I don't understand why you resist against the personality factor!? I wish I knew what you really try to say?! Do you really mean all the people are the same?!!

to nerve09, thanks. i believe the same. but I would like more inputs in my posts to nadia: its not that I resist the "personality factor". I try to be as objective as possible for increasing match probabilities for us who will not match and for the future generation of IMGs who are going to read this forum. Let me give an example: which LoR weights more, one who says "this guy is an excellent person and makes good friends with people" or "this guy is an excellent physician, who works fine under stress and made our medical team stronger"? Personality factor is there but is difficul to meassure and to change for the same reason.

Oh Oh LOR's I would like to share the input I had from one of my acquaintances , she is a big ( as in BIG) scientist in basic research now , and let me tell you some nude facts I would love to know about other people's oppinions if they differ. she said if some body writes Puchpal is a really motivated young man , with a lot of energy, He has been there with me for the last three months, READ IT AS this guy came to me three months back and I leave the decision upto you , but "he is not a disaster" and so are the zillion letters that say he is well dressed energetic enthusiastic punctual team player organised etc etc but a STRONG letter would be , Puchpal has a good approach towards the Psychotic prodromal data, and was very meticulous in helping me with XYor Z part of the compilation for this research A VERY STRONG letter would be, Puchpal new approach towards the Psychotic prodrome has been a revelation to me too, and his new way to go ahead with the SIPS has been very helpful in saving us a lot of time. And AN EXCELLENT letter would be something higher than this , where you really contribute towards a bigger thing and then most of the times,,,,,,if that place has a residency ,,,,,,,,you wont get a letter from them , rather they would like to take you in by bending the rules, and giving this prematch first time in history Ladies and gentlemen , i apologise for It is a humorous way to describe , what I came to know , I am not that good a writer( here I wanna say i am an OK writer though ). I look forward to you guys, for your oppinions in this regard

haha P, it reminds me a tale a friend of mine told me: LoRs given by same drs, saying the same and the applycants meeting in the same places, PD reading the same damn thing. How much weight u give to that: ZERO If I dont match and I have to do it all over again, I would write my own LoR at the putchpal style. P, why dont you write a generic LoR and share it with us.
