new_n_lost: I echo everything you said in your last post, and clap at it! Gratitude is what everybody needs to have in order to be appreciative of what goes on in USA. We are very privileged people for the simple fact that we have choices. Some don't, some are not capable of even recognizing them!

I think there are a couple of misconceptions: 1.- the competition for ME it's AMONG IMGs not against AMGs.... the system for them works well. 2.- the EDUCATION System in the US is excellent (nothing to do with the NRMP), and I would go an beat any "MATCHING" System to get a position here. 3.- the match system or HALF MATCH, or SEMI-match or "system with a system out of it" for IMGs could be improved... I'm coming to the US because here were and are some of the best innovators, scientists, thinkers, doctors!! (the father of american medicine Sir William Osler was an "IMG", he prematched at Hopkins though, hehe) etc... and I prefer to think (at least) on how to solve, change, and improve things, instead of being satisfied with less .... prueba, I applaud you for your opinion and I join you! It was a great analysis and very well put! Sure does USA give us a chance most of us won't have in the home country and yes- we ARE thankful for this opportunity!!! Does it mean though we have to suck up anything that is being given to us? We should not think of ways of improvement? Yes, we come to JOIN a system but not to beat it! We come to use it like everybody else(AMGs..), but it looks there are always separate rules....This said, if you read my previous post, what made me mad was not the offer itself but the pressure! And the follow-up email telling me that IMGs overestimate their chances of getting into competitive programsthrough the match! I want to match to my number one so badly now- just to send an email back to those people and rub it under their noses- this might stay only as a wish, but match day will show. I do think that a lot of excellent IMGs sell themselves short (and cheap) just to play it safe. To give me an offer, 2 days to decide and then remove me from the rank list when I hesitate to take it -sorry, that's not fair. I sincerely wish everybody good luck!!!

"I do think that a lot of excellent IMGs sell themselves short (and cheap) just to play it safe. To give me an offer, 2 days to decide and then remove me from the rank list when I hesitate to take it -sorry, that's not fair. " I see your point. They shouldn't have given up having you because you refused prematch. After all, you are trying to get the best program and betting on it. That shows confidence in yourself and that's very good in a doctor. They shouldn't take it as personal, they must already know there are better programs than theirs. The e-mail they sent you sounds very arrogant. The few people I met that refused prematches ended up in their first choices, they are about 5 very happy residents now. I am praying for you. My story is quite different than most around here. I didn't come to USA to be a doctor. I came to have some family time and go back, ended up loving it and staying. So I am here and I am a doctor, and being a doctor is the best I can offer to this country, or any country I eventually live in. Maybe I'll pay a high price for the decision I made, because now I have a huge gap in my cv, and competition has been fierce, but I needed to give it at least a shot.

arlete, Thank you for your words of support. I have read some of your posts and you seem to be a genuinely kind and grounded person, just the right qualities for a good doctor! I sincerely wish you a successful end of this long and arduous journey!!!

Thanks everyone for writing your opinions. the truth is that prematch saves most of us the agony of waiting for the match result and the uncertaiinty of the place we get matched to. The rank order list we submit most often in the top 3 -5 depending on the number of interviews we get will be the top choices then because of the same uncertainty we go ahead and rank all the places we interviewed at. At this point those of us who have signed prematches are greatful for being saved that agony ..... but here is my point ( I will not give up my prematch though truth be said) the programs it seems to have no rule guiding how many spots to be offered in the prematch to make it fair then they go ahead and offer up to 65-70% then making things a little tighter for the people who deceide to wait for the match well ...............................
