friends ,CUDNT GATHER THE courage 2 even post my failure on dis forum earlier,I KNOW i can get immense support n guidance ONLY HERE..i failed CS in ICE-i.e . in data gathering n patient note.scored high in CIS n SEP.I am still not able 2 digest it.i m very very depressed.. ....................To my knowledge i asked the patient every damn question related 2 SP's symptom, finally asked abt ROS in all cases.what must have went wrong, pls help me friends, need ur support .patient note - i wrote it well but not neatly,it was a congested one. i cudnt complete 3 cases completely,i .e. cudnt give them diagnosis n DD n closure, did counselling for smokin n etc during history taking for every case. not able 2 concentrate on STEP 1 OR ANYTHIN ELSE,ITS JUST SHOCKING,after coming out of the CS centre,i was pretty sure,i wud pass........now i am losing confidence in myself

Sorry to hear about your results. When writing the patient's note you need to be organized and follow the same pattern all the times . Since my problem was not the english I spent a lot of times writing the patient's note when studying. At the beginning I was all over the place and focussing on the wrong info and not relating the prominent ones. With practice I came to the understanding that they wanted a synapsis of positive and negative points related to the patient.

Sorry to hear about your result supra I was devastated and shocked myself I failed in CIS....scored high in ICE & SEP What did you do to get a high in CIS part I got a high in ICE as i did everything according to the book....It is not about asking all the questions, but only the important ones concerning the case Moreover, PN are seen by doctors like us. They dont know what you ask during the exam to SP. They only have the background information about the case as to what are the pertinent positives & negatives So dont loose heart. Lets try till we succeed

Supra, I know a friend who scored excellent in CIS and SEP,but cudnt make thru ICE and was confused as to what went wrong because had good scores on step1 and was very proficient in English. He passed after he attended the c3ny workshop.I too attended the worshop-it worked for me( I was not confident but with Gods grace made it thru CS ).So there is still hope,u just need the right tools at hand.Dont lose confidence.Be persistent and determined.I have written the pt note format in case discussion-if u want to take a look at it.I followed that pattern,it has the same std things but looks somewhat organised.I am an img, had attended patients in my home country, but was afraid how to interact with pts here because its different here.. But once u get the hang of it u will do good .

Zade,i didnt pratice patient note much,so i cud have written badly, reagarding data gathering, still its shoking,i donno what n how i m gonna improve on dis . Thanx anp for all ur support, will follow ur pattern n practice as much as i can on PN. Yendor,Thanks for all the support,I liked the way u said,GOD has a reason for everything ,yes God is giving me lots n lots of surprises, the reason for which i still need 2 find out.okay,.I have taken my exam on Nov 26th,in Atlanta. Sandsim2001,lets not repeat our mistakes again.lets pratice as much as we can.i m sorry 2 hear dat u cudnt fare well in CIS.I JUST DID some things religiously like knockin at the door, introduction, greeting, showing sympathy, assuring the SP dat i m there to help him 2 recover in every step ,washing hands, offering him tissue if coughed, lending foot rest, helping the SP in positionin, counselling etc,may be what i did was sufficient for CIS.But what about ICE,i followed strictly the first aid for CS,some usmle world cases, practiced with 3 phone patners and practiced with my husband.I am an img n i have no US clinical experience. My husband, a physician in US, guided me a lot ,still i cudnt make it.Its a biggest shock for him more dan me,poor guy,i shattered his confidence in me.He is very supprtive n positive n he is encouraging me 2 take up again, but i need confidence in myself.

dear supra, sorry to hear about your result , dont get discouraged, you are a very good doctor, you got a excellent score in step 2 that it self is a proof, you are the one who gave me courage and moral support when i was depressed about my step 1 score,, i even took a print out of what you wrote me and pasted on my desk, sothat i can read it when ever i feel dicouraged, focus on areas where you did bad and work hard on that, you will definitly succeed, dont loose your heart

Hi Supra, I just noticed this, and I am sorry to hear about your result, I was really grateful when you were the one comforting me during my post-exam traumatic experience. As someone else mentioned, I think the patient note counts a lot for the ICE, because if you think, that is the only part where a physician judges you, so they probably are strict on that part. I was practising everything else but the patient note, and when I tried to write a sample one a day before the exam, I found out how much trouble it was to organize and write only the relevant information in a legible way. So I basically timed myself and practised it the whole day, and it got better and better. Just keep your faith and work on what you think might have gone wrong, and I am sure you will pass next time.

Oh, Supra I'm sorry to read this, I know you are a good and kind Doctor who gave me the first comment when I was stressed wating for my CS results. Don't worry, you are a good Doctor and it won't impact your future that much, you can still get a good position, many people with this result have gotten good positions. I can't find the words to make you feel better but you have to get yourself together and get on track again, you will pass next time for sure, just be sincere with yourself and find out what could have caused a bad impretion to the patient, by correcting such mistakes you will succeed but NEVER GIVE UP and stay focused. My best wishes.

dear supra, i was really checking this thread almost every day wondering what happened to you , iknow what you going through, because i my self was in a very bad mental status but i tried hard to come out of that , still some traces of that lingering on my back , i even transfered my self to different hospital so that i can come out of that as soon as possible, i couldnt concentrate on my books, tears rolling down allthe time, but with support of freinds like you, with strong family support who stood by me allthe time, and on the top of that by gods grace iam almost out of that, very soon i willbe normal and and hoping to get a good score in rest of the exams, supra dont loose your courage good and bad things will happen in life and thats how life is and ifyou stressed out somuch that will ruin your health more, this phase will pass its not going tolast long , i know few collegues with scores in 80 s and who took attempts got into residency and they are in us now one in family medicine other in IM, you are a very good doctor there is no doubt about that, just take few days time off let your mind and health settle down and then start reading, what ever happened that is past we cant change that but atleast what is ahead you that is in your hand, study hard and dowell , i pray god to give you support and courage during this bad phase

dear supra... i am so sorry to know this.i know how you must be feeling but you need to gather yourself and move on ...... failures do bring us set backs but remember they are temporary.... you need to put it behind you and look ahead and prepare.... so don't let this thing hinder you in your goals... you have proved yourself once in step2CK and right now step1 is waiting for you....... you must stop thinking negative and give in your 100%to your step1 prep. yes a break will help you but remember you must rejuvinate yourself during this time and don't let negative thoughts take over you... looking forward to seeing the old supra i knew. take care.

Hi supra, happen to read your thread today. And also saw a phrase said by you, if we could not change the thing that happened, at least we can change the way we think. Hope you already get over this, and regain your confidence for the future.

Hi Supra, good luck. I am sure you will make it. When you practice cases, make sure you do everything in a timed mode (including knocikng on door, simulating washing hands, etc)...even the PN for each case. After a few, you will get pro.

hi supra...am sorry to hear that... well the exact same thing happened to me...i too failed in ice and passed in others...i too had the confidence that i will pass. Its not that dont have the proper knowledge. i got 99 in step1. I know how it feels and i started losing confidence in myself. But life is not just the cs. Thats what i thought and i am preparing for cs again. Life = risk . lets do it. have the courage. Together we can do it. support has the greatest power to heal...
