Guys and my dear jounral............................

The Pic Speaks for itself ,

Wasted 2 more days on the trot...

Shudnt actualli call them wasted cos i did manage to study 3 hrs per day , but very ineffective way of studying.

Hmm anyways.............

My mind is big timeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee cluttered and clouded now....

I need to think to do my best for the day....But boy....is it tough ??????

My brain keeps wandering to whens the reading completion,, whens the nbme, which nbme, what if that score in nbme or what if high score in nbme, how many days for further revisions... how abt step 2, how abt CSA, how abt visa, can i make it to 2009, if i cant make it to 2009 match , how will i fund by repaying the loan for my love's MS in USA which begins this falll.... oh goddddddddddddddddd............. everything in the world runs thru the rates of knots in my brain.... making it difficult to do MY BEST for the day.....

I took a day off...Watched my favourite sport Cricket. Ate my Fav Pizza. Slept like an infant.....and then sat down and did some RETROSPECTION & INTROSPECTION.

Made a few inferences. here they go...

1. I think a lot , talk a lot abt them , than doing things.

2. I look for easy short cuts and waste time searching for them cos there aint any.

3. I am not as dedicated as one shud be to achieve the IMPOSSIBLE

4. I truly deeply madly and badly wanna be in for 2009 match but ...

5. I can say and now confirm that I am an Incompetent Blithering Idiot.

Made a few changes to my approach .. here they go...

1. Do it and then talk abt it

2. Consistent Hardwork is the shortestCUT to 2009 Residency

3. Kalyan will be as dedicated as he can be from now on , to go with his determination to achieve the 2009 Residency.

4. Will make the Impossible Possible. Again.. Will do it and show it .Rather than talk abt it.

5. I will prove myself to be better than an idiot.

Devuda ( meaning God )......From 1st June onwards....... Shud i put in all the efforts and energy and soul into one whole thing - USMLE STEP 1 , Pls consider me a candidate good enough to get a good score in Step 1 and in race for the Residency 2009.

Simple Disclaimer :

Kalyan really wants a 2009 residency seat...

Kalyan will , from now on, work at 212 degrees to achieve the Impossible...

Kalyan will achieve it and then talk abt it.

Good night. Off to Sleep now... To Dream abt Usmle 2009 Residency...

For those who are wondering what 212 degrees is :

Well dear,

What can i say? I wish I could say something to help u abit...I wish i could write like you did for me...but i can't...I am exactly in your place...BUT I'll try my best and I'm not saying the followings just to make you happy...i mean whatever i am gone say...

I have all the exams to be qualified for the match 2009, but I will be in this match...How??

well I have one month( less,27days) to take step1 and have to learn everything...do all d questions and review as well...HOW??

I have to read as efficient as possible and only high yields...so no way i can read the whole rapid review...I know you like that book...but have to be realistic...i don't have time to read that book...but wait...I am still thinking of a good score...high 90s...so what i am doing right now:

I start with FA...and again i know you r not a fan of that book...but FA is sooo high yield...so i read it well...i don't read fast thru it...i understand and than memorize...a friend of mine who got 96 told me if u memorize FA well u can get 86-90 and wt extra qs and stuff u increase yr score...so dear Kalyan, You have to know that book cold...and can't leave it for last few days...

So when I am done wt a system in FA...I read corresponding section in FA cases...i found them very helpful ...then I read Dr. Goljan's word ro word lecture in writings and will look at the slides in his book...then UW for that particular system...

then for biochem, immuno and Beh. i read Kaplan...for Anatomy I am gone read UL and LL from Kaplan and the reast FA....just will look at those MRA/CTs in Webpath...also all the pictures in HY neuroanatomy...

YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO MAKE IT ...yes you do...yes if you stop thinking and as you said acting on it...believe me..you still can make it...you dont have to have all the results by Sep 1st... and I think your option of internal medicine raises the possibilities big time...

Only one thing...CS...i don't know when is the latest time you can take it...please find out about that...maybe it's better you apply for visa right after step1 rather than after step2...

OK 1 extra month (only reading) for step 1...2 weeks max for CS...and 2 months for step 2 is all you need...

imagine if you had now 4 more months for step1...would you really work at 212 degree everyday of those 4 months...NO..you won't...you would waste again another 3 months...and work at your best the last month...this is true for most people...so this is it...this one month is all you need to to be ready...and you will be...and this is true again for step 2...no matter how many months they give us... we will be only very effective the very last month or so...

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE... JUNE... either you can blow it out by thinking...or you can read every minute of it...and become 1 step closer to MATCH 2009...

if you lose month June...that is it, my friend...no more realistic hopes for the match 09...

and we have to read like in school...a day before exam...i am not saying cramming...i mean reading smart...

you can plan it anyway you like...but i know you can do this...remember that day you post your POA ( rbc, platlets..ect...ect)....so many things...and you did it...you crossed everything off at night...u can do it...remember your early days of prep...how fast you were...u can do this...i am sure more than anything right now...

IT IS STILL POSSIBLE...please...please....accept this...only if you study every second from tomorrow onwards...yes every second...

I am here going thru the same...so focused thank God and more hopeful than ever that I will do this...so if i can be focused and hopeful...u can too...these are all you need...becoz you have still time...not to think...but to study...

So when you wake up tomorrow...after you get ready to start..start with the name of Devuda...and try to have only one thought...NOW... just think right now i have to learn something...and keep going...

P.S. that picture is sooo cute.

Oh! I missed so much ..........Just got back from CS in Chicago.....my first of the steps on the road to USMLE, which by the way Kalyan, I have put off for 8 years.........Why? I wonder now...........

As I came out of the center and breathed the fresh air, away from the announcements and cluttered time pressured routine........all I thought was - Why did I not take this exam earlier?? Well I didnt believe in me though I dont want to admit it even now. Study499 is very right - even if we have 4 months we put our best only in the last. I wonder how I did it this time ... Here is what I think made it possible.........(I am not relating my story in your journal but if there is one reason here that makes a difference to your approach to the exam, I would be happy)

1) I always gave excuses - single mom, full time job, a little kid to take care of - I felt sorry for myself and wanted to have a pity party - felt good when people empathized and kept dwelling in that pool. Felt I was right in not studying because I had enough reasons not to.

Only this year I realized, though it feels okay.........I am not getting to where I want to be in my life.....I am not where my passion and purpose is......so turned the plate around............Even when my day was full and tiring I would still practice 2 cases at 9.30 pm with a sincere, dedicated friend from this lovely forum. If I were to do it myself, I would have given again an EXCUSE and slept.

2) Someone believed in me - Our dear friend Arlete is here helping all even though she has finished her CS exam practising. As you probably know I was preparing for step1 very slow -seemed endless as it has been the first exam I wanted to take for all these years. I still remember the day when we met on skype and she said "Wanna to do a case?" . I hadnt even opened my first aid for CS and said I wasnt ready. But she insisted we try and I just acted out what we all long for - Doctor . Her words still ring in my ears " You are good - you should go for the exam". The point is SOMEONE BELIEVED IN ME - it turned on a big flame inside me - Sure there were times during the 3 week prep ( I goofed around one week depressed) and wanted to postpone the exam. Our Milee99 came to rescue and kept me on track.

Kalyann, not one but all of us on your thread believe in you......You dont have a flame but a wild forest fire to inspire you......BELIEVE IN YOURSELF - June is a new month - YOUR MONTH- You are a clean slate today - Start writing your Step1 path fresh- it should be a month you tell your son/daughter how their dad fought his way through life! ( Bit emotional huh?)

3) It is not time that matters - YOUR BEST in that time matters. Erase 2009 from your mind and focus on the number "1" - Step1, June 1st, 1 month, 1hour ,1 minute - the extra 1 degree that only Kalyann knows is his best - No. 1 prep in Kalyan's lifetime!

The best of the best is in you Kalyann - believe in yourself!

Just when i thought to start off the month with a high note...

I had a wonderful greeting in the morning.....Met with a bike accident and My right hand fingers gt hyperextended...and i dislocated DIPs of my two rt hand fingers....

Wonderful eventful start the 212 degrees approach....I mean it really hurt................

Typing with left hand now... Cant use these till 2 weeks for sure....

But neverthelss returned from my uncles hospital in the night...Cudnt study one min also......

Nevertheless, I have 4 more hours to go before i sleeep...

Now i will maximise these 3 hrs left and look forward to covering up the lost hrs of study in this week by studying 1-2 hrs more daily...only if it is effective....

Thanks Target for the support and concern.

kalyan every sec counts yes!! yes i know ..i am studying from feb to now well wht is the out come ?? n when can i say that i am ready . when i can i tell myself that ya i am progressing ..well as days r nearing i feel complacent and tired tell me is this normal ..pls do help ..

  #517

Its Completely normal and confirms and classifies u as a Human.

Bcos Its what many including me experience.

'"A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our parents, grandparents , great grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beat the hell out of never trying.""

So Chillllllllll ,

Take an NBME

U will come to know where u stand in this prep and what to do

Keep it Simple.

Study for another 15 days Work hard on the weak areas.

Take another NBME. Try to score higher with that 15 days prep..

Target ur uninterested or weak areas...

Assess again with another NBME.

This is a way to proceed to improve on ur score to keep ur prep on the toes.

Onli sutdying without qs or assessing where u stand may cause the empty-what did i achiece-nothing feeeling...

Its not from when u studied, Its always how u studied...

If u didnt study well.. Nothing's lost..Realise that . Accept it and Move on.... Study well from now.. As me and study499 are doing... We are not bothered by the past... We learnt from the mistakes.. We got excellent tips from few others here... We are marching ahead to take this exam by June end... Thinking positive only... Implementing our thoughts and putting into action the wonderful ideas is the TOUGHEST part .. We are getting better at it....

I am sure u will also be motivated....Try skimming thru previous posts during the last 1-2 weeks on my and study499s jounral... Its self explanatory and i can expect u also to relate to the situation we were in...

and also Watch this 212 degrees video on youtube... and come back with ur plan and liven up ur journal... We are all here for any help we can offer .... Get ur confidence and self belief back...

thanks kalyann , well i know i am an human..well no more self pity will be taking nbme in 2 days
also i was facing a lot of difficulty in neuro anat so well found this site ..check it out it is gr8
http://www.utoronto.ca/neuronotes/ ..down load the first 2 ..sorry corrected the site

Edited by drsumedha on 06/03/08 - 09:42 AM

  #519

so good to see u back in shape ..
keep it that way till your exam
wish you speedy recovery...

when exam gets nearer, there are some or other health problems coming up..
take care of yourself...

when conditions are favorable , anyone can study.. the challenge is to do it against all odds..

i have developed a funny mindset...
i work better against odds... than in favorable conditions ... good times can make you lazy

imagine if you get 99 after taking this exam in june, you willl feel much more confident about urself.. that you can tackle it inspite of physical and emotional difficulties.

kalyann ,
i know you can do it...
go ahead and grab it..

just like target said, when i came out of my step 1 exam , i felt that if this is how unsure i was going to be after exams, why did i delay it so much?? you will never get to a confortable point of surety for your prep, that's why they have the nbme's to help you.

also there is a danger...
if you take too long, you are going to forget what you did long time ago...

don't waste energy.. capitalise on it...

i really feel like postponing my exam for cs.. its 4 days left

but i don't want to lose the advantage of what i improved on during this last week...

so go ahead and do it

we all trust you

Thanks for the trust and belief. I am GLAD that u r around this forum. U dont forget ur friends easily which is an awesome attribute.

I believe i can pull it off.

U hit the bulls eye with all ur statements and opinions.

That is why i am putting in my best for the next 30 days... when most prolly i will meet the exam face to face...

So Fresh Day... Gotta make the most of it ...
