Nice Kalyan! I had just thought about writing those lines from Pursuit of Happyness here .......and here you are ! Amazing coincidence. Doc4, I have been there done that...lots of time in self pity and how I wasted years not studying.....the point is next year you will be thinking of this time as time wasted if you keep dwelling on that! So the best time is now to study .......Cheer up ......as Kal says give your best everyday ...every half hour you study......you can do it !

hi kalyan , well i am daily follower of ur thread and i can feel that the spirit is going frm the prep thread!! maybe ur v busy with ur exams around the corner.. i wish u all the v best of luck for ur exam . u will surely achieve ur aim 99. well do keep us informed so that we r also motivated !!

Infact, I too, am a daily follower of my thread...
I definitely reply to who ever posts in my prep journal.
Yeah... I made a conscious decision to post here my UW scores as and when i am done with them... As u know , I am doing UW with my second read... I didnt re-apply to the examination yet... I need to do that after 2 weeks time ( There is a restriction that a re-application needs to wait for 14 days to get accepted, after the previous one is exhausted )
So I am burrowing myself into books... making every hour ( that passes by ) count...
Enjoying my studies... Challenging myself from time to time with time restraints in completing few crammable subjects ( Fyi, I am a Very Very Very Good Crammer ) and Giving ample time to Concepts and Mechanisms in Patho-Physiologies.
My health is fine and doign great... Reduced my weight by 8 kgs since i started this journal ( i.e., 1 kg/week weight loss ) and I am proud of it... Atleast i achieved something worthwhile mentioning here...
And yeah coming back to studies,
I completed whole of Biochemistry and UW ( completed ) = 84 %
So now u could have figured it out why there is Dr.Lionel Raymon's Pic in my profile... I loved his 2004 lectures on Biochemistry... The way he winds then unwinds everything is Super... I am actually looking forward to hearing his Pharmacology 2008 lectures...
I am almost there to complete Physiology and UW ( til now ) = 72%
I completed General Pathology , No UW yet , But Robbins Qbook = 94 %
I started and will be completing Immunology and Bacteriology, Mycology in next 4 days...
Hmmmmmmm...Yeah...Thats abt it...

To all my telugu friends:
MINDBLOWING: Balakrishna' s Dialogues in English
1) U can study and get any certificates. But u cannot get ur death certificate
2) U may have AIRTEL or BSNL connection but when u sneeze u ll say HUTCH
3) U can bcome an engineer if u study in engineering college. U cannot bcom a president if u studies in Presidency College
4) U can expect a BUS from a BUS stop ... u cannot expect a FULL from FULL stop
5) A mechanical engineer can bcom a mechanic but a software engineer cannot bcom a software
6) U can find tea in teacup. But cannot find world in world cup
7) U can find keys in Keyboard but u cannot find mother in motherboard .

Am new to this forum.......... glad dat i registered,else wud have never come across people like u!!!
I have read ur journal upto the very last post.............its truly inspirational!!!u r so determined........ n persistently working towards ur goal.......its truly remarkable
There have been times wen ........reading ur posts have reaffirmed my belief dat........any task can b accomplished,irrespective of how insurmountable it seems at the onset!!
Let me tel u a lil bout myself.........
Am an img from india,aiming for the 2009 match..........in the same breath must also add dat have jus begun my prep for step1.........intend taking it arnd jul-aug.
I am aware that i will be pressed for time from the begining itself.........but its imperative dat i make it for the 2009 match.............
I had a couple of personal issues which took up my time resulting in this delay.
I would b obliged if u cud give me an honest asessment of the situation n advice on hw to go bout things.
I have a couple of questions....
1)Will i b in a position to make it for the 2009 match?
2)Will i have to b ECFMG certified b4 i apply in sep?
3)if the ans to my second q is yes den ...........hw do i take my exam dates n prepare accordingly to ensure dat?
I am sorry for having taken the liberty to ask u for help in my first post itself...........its jus dat am so worried can't figure out hw to go about things.
You must be in the midst of ur prep.............reply wenever suits u fine..........

Okie..... Then............chalo..... so u have very less time.... is this what u say / feel ?
Well then u are not talking abt urself but talkign abt u being a part of general common set of usmel aspirants who have a acquired genetic perception that each step needs more than 6 months to prepare to get 95 + and all and what not various stereotyped preps that r being followed like goat / sheep....
First once u decide to go for 2009 match.... U are going for it ..come what may... Dont listen to what others say...that u cant do it and all... u will ruin ur scores and alll... u will be doomed for life and all.. All timid inexperienced statements they are... Why doesnt anyone tell u to give it a try.... Trial in the sense.... You will start ur prep in full speed.. Study diligently... Sincerely by being honest with urself and then assess urself at right times and then decide urself waht u r going to do with ur prep....Its not that u will write Steps no matter what happens by oct - nov....U will chose whats best for u...isnt it... ? And remember that u can only decide what u wanan / gonna do.
If u ask me whether u can do it or not... I wud say yes..... I have learnt from seniors who went for match 2008 that even if they were ecfmg certified in mid nov they managed to get 3-5 interviews and got matched at very good hosp for IM residency.... Aint that relaistic example enough for you to try ur best to get all ur scores by Nov Begininning ?
Being ECFMG certified before Sept 1st is the IDEAL CASE SCENARIO....I wont say u cant be by that time...U can if u wanna... Allow urself to think that u can do it....Sometimes it works and sometimes it wont.. But atleast u will be giving urself a fair amount of chance that u can do it and achieve it... And again u aint gonna dive into a Shark Laden Pool without assessing urself , Isnt it...? So chill..Remove Fear... Remove Apprehensions... Remove Preconceived notions... And u need these to get what u want in a time limited situation:
- Immense Focus
- High Intensity
- Patience
- Perseverance
- Persistence
- Desire for Success > fear of Failure
- Rock Solid Self - Belief ( Most Imp )
So u gotta study around 2 1/2 months for Step 1, 15 days for Step 2 CS ( write it asap ),and remaining time for Step 2 ( till Oct Beginning ) so that u get all ur scores by Oct and get Ecfmg certified by Oct end. However u need to apply with whatever scores u have by Oct 10th ( which i guess is the cut off date to applying to univs )
If u think u can do that.. then i shall continue or else... I am wasting my time here big time.....

Hi Match 2010...
yeah i am doing fine study wise but had URTI for 4 days and was down on energy and those stupid antihistaminics which make me drowsy .. I had a tough time to keep myself focussed on studies... Well I am thru that hard time now... I am doing good in my race with time as of now..
Will ceom back with my UW score updtes on April14th.

hi kalyaan !!
ur journal is truly inspirational.right now i was thinking of delaying further my exam .but now i wont after reading ur advice for moksha08.
i don t want to delay my exam further .i ve been studying since nov 07. i didn t studied in march due to some personal commitments but otherwise i studied really hard in those 4 months .i m inshallah gonna go for match 2009 .i will take step 1 in may end.n plus i hv taken cs date on june 26. n the plan is to take ck by sep end .

The Usmle Step 1 Examination is not administered on PAPER anymore.
Its a computerized exam where u get Questions from the pool encoded and get decoded on ur computer adn your answers get encrypted and sent back to the Database.
Its a secure exam ... and its so secure that it is administered in India...
Why a special reference to India.... ?
Cos thats where... these computer software guys come from... rest is understood if u passed 5th standard at ur school.
