Hello everyone,

My name is Jasmine. I will be studying at St. Andrews International Academy in Pune, India. St. Andrews has an affiliation agreement with St. Luke school of medicine, Ghana.

I'm very excited about going to Pune, India and studying medicine in Pune, India. And, I hope this board is more friendly to IMG's than other boards I've been on. I will not talk bad about any other boards. However, I will say that I've been looking for a message board that is designed for International medical students not just carribean medical student (nothing against them). The reason I say this is because I have learned that the preparation of medical school student in foriegn medical schools are not the same for US medical school student. In the US, pre-meds take alot of science courses to get into medical school. However, in foriegn countries, most go right from high school.

I say all this because at St. Andrews International Academy, one can enter into a 6yr High School to MD program or if one has a Bachelor degree, one can apply to the school and be admitted that way. I was admitted with a Bachelor degree and I have gotten alot of bad remarks from people here in the US who feel that I should take the MCAT and take lots of sciences courses. Now I have had a good rounded education in my bachelor program. I've had biology, Anatomy Physiology, Medical Terminolgy, Chronic and Communicable diseases, Math, Pharmocology and lots others. So I feel that I have been prepared to study medicine and so dose St. Andrews International Academy and St. Luke school of medicine thus my acceptance.

Being that I was going to message boards where 95% of the people are applying to US medical schools or carribean medical schools, I felt that I was not able to speak with alot of IMG's where 95% of the people are IMG's who want to get licensed in the US.

Well, I hope I have not started off on the wrong foot. I look forward to being on this board if I'm so welcomed and perhaps documenting my jounery to becoming a physician.

Be well everyone.

I have spent many nights tossing and turning wondering how I can meet my pre-med requirements before I head I head over to India to start my medical education.

Thanks to this link www.fsmb.org/inmeded/inmeded_v1_no_1.htm I now have the pre-med requirements for most India medical schools. These pre-med classes also fullfill the state of NJ requirement list of classes which must be taken by all IMG's prior to starting there medical education and becoming licensed in NJ.

Since I have all ready taken biology, all I need to do is finish my pre-med studies with chemistry and physic. NJ only requires you to do 3 hours of each so I will have met my requirement by the time I'm ready to start my medical education.

One other concern I have is that the school I'm planning to attend is not chartered in India. It's chartered in Liberia and Ghana. However, graduates of my medical school can take the exam to become licensed in India per MCI regulations.

NJ has mentioned that a student must do at least 2yrs in the country which the school is chartered. Yet, I have come to learn that India is the top place to gain medical education. Over half of US IMG's come from India. This has inspired me to do my medical education in India where some of the top IMG physician are coming from.

If anyone can offer some advice on this I would appreciate it very much. In the meantime I will continue to research on licensure requirements in the US for IMG's.
