16 y.o. high school cheerleader presents with low grade fever, pleuritic pain and a nonproductive cough. Her serum agglutinates Streptococcus salivarius strain MG. Therapy should include which of the following?

a) Ampicillin

b) Erythromycin

c) Oxygen and external cooling

d) Penicillin

e) Ribavirin

and not D - penicillin? Don't see anything that indicates a penicillin allergy, so it can't be erythromycin. What's the answer? confused

Looks like a Atypical Pneumonia thingy so i will go for B
Have no idea about this Strep strain.

streptococcus salivarus MG agglutinins react with mycoplasma.........
diagnostic of mycoplasma...
so treatment is erythromycin....or clarithromycin
so B

I'm going to change and go with choice C. Angel23 is right that this is an atypical pneumonia, but this one is caused byt H.influenza and erythromycin wouldn't be drug of choice since it's gram negative. So therefore supportive treatment here seems like the best option.

Just to add - this patient doesn't have a strep infection, rather the strep salivarius agglutination was used to diagnose H. influenza.

The diagnosis is Atypical pneumonia and the treatment is Erythromycine
