It depends on age. There is one type that affects children, other is in adolescents and adults. It is one entity from the group of eczema (other entities are contact allergic dermatitis, irritative dermatitis, ...). The main symptom is pruritus. It appears in people with atopic constitution- which means that they have the predisposition to produce high level of IgE antibodies in response to benign external antigens; it is often associated with other atopic diseases like allergic rhinitis, asthma... Depending on the age of a patent, morphological features and localization of lesions vary. Erythema, swelling, vesicles, crust - features of all dermatoses from the group of eczema in acute stage; lichenification - like in chronic stage of all dermatoses from the group of eczema. There are also some general symptoms like nervousness, high inteligence, frequent feeling of cold, dermographism, dry and irritable skin, pruritus, high susceptibility to Staphylococcus and Herpes infections.
