Hello all, I took the exam on Jan. 22nd. I was reluctant in writing because I was confused from the test....still recovering. But when I read a similar experience I was encouraged, just a bit. That test was a hard brutal marathon. Unlike what I have heard from most over here; you know....that Step2CK is easier than Step1. Well not for me, that's for sure. I thought I already took the shock of step1 but I was still shocked by step2. I kept waiting for an easy block one after the other, until the end of the test! Some questions were actually funny, in how hard they make it that is. I had the feelings that whoever wrote some of the questions is saying to me:"yup, I'm deliberately making this one hard for you...but wait till you see the rest of the block!". For every DD you can think of, there is a valid risk factor or a sign & symptom. They want you to know it the way they want you to know it. I don't think an open book would've even helped in those cases. The 2 AV questions were the easisest, in my opinion. They were both heart sounds, and not even "real" sounds. They made the sounds very obvious and very basic, coupled with viewable neck pulsations. So you shouldn't have a problem with those. My test was scheduled at noon, till 9pm. The prometric center is at an office building. After the 7th block I had 5 min left for a break, so I went outside the building for a gasp of air and as soon as I got out, the door locked behind me....woops....I couldn't go back, I was locked out!! Looking at the buzzers there was none for Prometric either! Watch me running in the garage like a chicken without a head...finally getting into my car, got the phone, called prometric and thank God they picked up....ah well, I lost 3 minutes on that block, but it certainly seemed like eternity for me. It was certainly a weird day, I blamed it on the full moon ;-)

Especially since my phone was in a locker in the prometric center ! I think you have a guardian angel ! Nice quick thinking doctor ! You should consider emergency medicine . Yes there was. Most of them are straightforward and not challenging like the ones on Step1. Know about emancipation, partial emancipation (a kid less than 18 asking you for a drug or a procedure, when to say yes and when to say no), some study biases, specificity & sensitivity, reportable diseases (STD's, even if the pt. asks you not to), importance of patient consent vs. family's...etc. I can't mention the specific questions I remember, but they're not much anyways. Hope this helps though, best of luck!

I would think that the exam is a bit different than UW. But certainly do as many questions as you possibly can. I think the test was very close to the NBME forms though, so do those as well. Good luck!

I think anyone will do, I did 1 & 2 - both were the same level and quite close to the exam, even the ambiguity of some questions. No media questions on the NBME though.
