hi to all those ppl who r going for the match!

this is my first match and dunno abt u guys , but now with all ivs over , the wait and uncertainty is killing me!.......im trying to focus on st 3 but its really hard........im always on the edge and feel really restless at times......im really tired of all this and fell nutty at times .....and to top it off, im haunted by the fear that i just might live to regret not taking either of the 2 pre-matches offered to me.......familial partial failure to c m oint as regards those desicions is no help at all........so in case anyone else here is somewhat in a similar boat , how abt we get together to keep ourselves sane till march?!?........any suggestions?.....raised eyebrow

Hey Busybee!

I'm joining your boat. I'm done interviewing as well but I didn't get any prematch offers. The wait is looooong and nerve wracking! It'll suck to go through this chaotic process all over again - lets hope that we - and everyone participating in this year's match - get a position at the program of their choice.

Supposed to be studying for step three but i can't - Need to stay sane for a very long month and a half!!! sad

hi!

im so glad im not the only one in such a state!.........this time is so full of doubtand incertainty.........i hope we all make it !............i guess the best thin i can do is study for st 3........trying to do it seriously as of today............gl to u too.......and soooooooo good to know im not alone!smiling face

Hi friends! I was offered three prematchs that two of them were from university programs and one of them was affiliated to a very strong uni. I declined all of them! I cancelled two IVs and don't want to rank one program at all! So I will go for match with only 4 options! You see my situation is totally risky.
But I want to support my decision and I believe good things happen not only to good people but also to strong people as well. So sit tight and study hard for step 3. We don't need to stay sad for something that has not happened and will never do. Try to live at the moment and don't forget that we are blessed with all the things that God has given us that are huge number of schievemnets. So be thankful, enjoy the moment and focus on step 3, be strong and support your decision and celebrate the result in March that for sure will be amazing.

hey ppl........

is it true that if u turn down a prematch offer that program wont rank u?......even if they say turning down the offer doesnt affect their ranking?.....

and keeping all this in mind , shud one place the refused prematch program high on our list (depending on how good it is)........or low , in fear that it might b a waste to rank them higher coz theres a good chance they wont rank us ......coz well, we did turn them down?......

so , wat do u all think.....?

glo md welcome to the club!

grin

  #10

hey busybee, just rank according to your preference....it is not a waist to rank higher any program... you may be low on the list...but if others did not rank it high you may get in....so don't worry about how they will rank you...

good luck with your study guys.... definately the best thing to do now if you have not taken it

Guys I need some advice please. I got a mail in reply to a thank you note from a program I'm interested in. The PC wished me luck, was happy my interview went well and said 'I'm really hoping to have an opportunity to work with you in July'.

Now does that show the program is interested in me and might rank me high or am I reading too much into it?

I'm confused - would appreciate some comments please.

sure sounds good!........i think some places do send emails like this to a lot of places.......i had something like this too......not exactly.......but somewhat along these lines........i thought they wud gime a prematch........had they done that , i might just have taken it........but they didnt..........so now i dunno if i just got too excited abt something relatively small.......but that place is still my no. 2-3 choice.......purely on its own merits.......im not going much by wat they said..........thats my 2 cents......

  #14

Thanks so much busybee. I was thinking that the program might be genuinely interested - but not sure thats why I asked you guys. Hmmmm... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Anymore comments guys?

because PC wrote that! I don't know much, but if it were PD's word it would definitely a strong positive sign I believe. Because I just got replied from PDs directly by email or phone. So it's strange PC wrote this! I have no idea!

  #16

Yeah the PC wrote this so I guess the importance gets diluted right? sad Oh well.. thanks for the suggestion though.

you know it really depends on the role of PC and it differes largely from one program to another. But it is a positive sign, because I know people who didn't get any kind of replies to their emails from PD or PC. Bottomline is we need to be patient.

  #18

Thanks for the encouraging words Nadia. You're right - all we can do is wait till Match Day. Arrggghhh... The waiting sucks!

im not even sure if any reply is a big deal........dunno abt u guys but in my case both the programs i got offers from didnt even respond to my thank u etc.........and the one that did , didnt offer anything........so , i wonder if its really as important as we think it is?..........

  #20

busybee it depends on the program. I also got my prematch for the two ones who didn't answer my thank you letters even and the other one sent a very short reply as nothing special in it, but I ended up with getting prematch offers from all the three. But during IV they completely showed their interest and told me that they want to have me. So...But there are programs who do NOT offer prematch so even if they fall in love with you they can not offer you prematch, right? Maybe the ones who answered you but didn't offer prematch are among the groups who do go for match with all their spots? Any idea?

  #21

well nadia , the one im talking abt , the chairman replied to my thank u email, as well as th pc......i was ived by another guy( not pd or chairman)......during the iv.he was like ur gonna do grt.....wonderufl things will happen to u etc and in the end he went i look forward to seeing u again.......after all this i felt real sure id get an offer.....They DO offer prematches and had not , till then reached their quota........i know coz another american guy ( caribbean grad) who ived with me was offered one later that week..........so well........i hav no clue wat they are/were thinking.........all the places ive been to expressed interest and gave good vibes..........some more than others, but n one actually told me they wud b ranking me high etc.....like i know some programs do........so , well , all i can do is wait.......im wondering , do all /most programs tell candidates that they will rank them high on their list?........if i wasnt told that does it mean im kind of doomed?.......im trying not to hyperventilate hererolling eyes........anyway , i guess only time will tell......

  #22

yes busybee I totally understand how you feel. I also wonder because one of the programs who showed me all the signs and compliments in the world and I was pretty sure they don't offer prematch, now after checking quota I saw they offered 3 prematches! We never know how they think and express themselves? as for applicants is the same when you send your followup email to a program and tell them you like them but still you don't end up with them after match! It doesn't mean you told them lie! But they were number three in your rank order list! and you can like your first three choices and even 4th and 5th. So the same for programs they can show interest to applicants whom they rank, but still you don't end up with them and it doesn't mean the program did tell lie to them.
Even it's more difficult for programs becaause they interviewed many applicants much more than the places we have interview there. Applicants are independent on deciding on their ROL, but programs are not. PD, faculty members, residents, policies of the program, their previous experiences, visa issues, budgets......many other factors influence their decisions. So the process is much more difficult for them than us as applicants.
I still think that program will rank you pretty high. They offered your friend prematch because they like him more than you, or selection committee has amny criteria more than just simply like the applicant...you never know, but still good enough that they like you as well. Maybe you are not number one in their list but still among the applicants whom they like. I know it hurts because every one likes to be liked the most as number one! This is the way I felt about the program that I told you about. But then I realized that I need to be more realistic and be ready that there are other people also who can be liked and more eligible than me and it is OK! bottomline is that program didn't tell lie to you they like you and rank you high but maybe they prefer someone else for prematch but still like you as well. It seems logical to me.

  #23

thanx , i totally agree with u......ofcourse there will b ppl they will like better than some.....as long as they like me....im happy.......

wat ive been wondering abt for long it if they dont tell u anything abt how they might rank u , does is mean they wont.....?........i mean i read/hear of ppl being told by the programs in person or via email.......abt how they might b ranked and stuff........now that didnt actaully happen to me.......at all........so does that mean anything bad?.......i know there isnt a definite way to know except to wait.......i guess its just paranoia......but i really wonder if i wasnt told anything like that does that =not being ranked by them?........

  #24

about telling rank high! It's not so much in agreement with nrmp rules. Although rank high doesn't mean you will end up with that program! There is no point in that I guess. For example when a program rank 60 for 4 positions you can be number 25 and it means high, but you don't end up there because people above you in the list rank the program as well!
when the results come out then we can get a good idea what all these words and compliments that we heard from PDs really meant. Hard time I know.

  #25

thanx a lot ........ uve been a real help........calling it a night now.......sorry if i kept u up so late!.......smiling face..shabbakhair......
