Hi, I am an internatioal graduate and graduated from medical school 7 years ago. I started from scratch preparing USMLE last November and reading kaplan notes about 3 hours every night after work. Three months have passed, I have finished reading biochemistry, pathology, physiology, half anatomy and half microbiology. I went to a kaplan center to do a diagnostic exam last Saturday. and only got 37% correct. The advisor said my score was low and should sign up for full time program there. I have a full time job right now. It will be very difficult for me to just study w/o working getting some income. So, I only sign up for 30 days center visit. But I do worry about my usmle preparation. I want to get a good score and have a good life in the future. I am wondering maybe my study strategic was not right. would u pls give me some advice on it? Acutally, b/c I am a foreinger, so most of the time I was spending chekcing dictionary try to understand the english words. but if the question is in my native language, my medical knowledge should be no problem. I am thinking that maybe after the first round understanding for all the lecture notes, I will study much better and can start memorizing the material. I also plan start to do some question bank after 1 round and read the second time of the lecture notes while I am doing question bank. I actually sign up the step 1 three months later. It sounds risky. but I dont' have too many choices b/c I want to get in match and start my residency 2009. I will put more time in it. Welcome any advise to me. Thanks a lot.
