Hi friends,
I took my test a few days ago at Houston. Ever since medical school, I have this problem of doing the most weird mistakes on practical exams. And CS was no different...
I thought I was doing quite well until about the 11th case. When I washed my hands and was about to start my PE, the SP asked me to wash my hands with soap. At that moment I realized that for all the previous cases, I had been washing my hands only with water. How big a mistake is that?
Also, I was the only male examinee at the center not wearing a tie.
I know that aspects of attire and hygiene go towards the score on the CIS component. I just don't know how much this would effect it. Any comments? Please do reply.

I have no idea of the hand-washing part, but I think for my case the sp just didn't pay much attention while I wash my hand, so I was thinking that most of the patients will take for granted that you washed your hand with soap. The 11th one maybe very detail-oriented person who just pay alot attention on this kinda issues. Most of the people on the day I took the exam are not wearing ties, but they do all wear shirts. I think as long as you look neat, a tie won't affect much of your result.

hi, USMLE_2008, do you pass? I had the same problem with hand washing. I did not use soap to wash hand. I am anxious and waiting for my results.
Has anyone else still passed with this mistake? Is it a big mistake?

Hi Niu. I did pass. And I had also made some of the usual mistakes that everybody does (like not being able to close a CNS case). Don't worry. If the rest of your exam was ok, you should be fine.

That sure is encouraging.. i forgot to wash my hands in one of the cases and the SP sure looked disgusted when he asked me to wash... Still waiting for my result..

guys i think you are over analyzing. if that's the only mistake that you made, then you will surely pass. so relax guys
