Hi everybody: I've been reading this website for months, getting motivation from the journals of some of you and tips and advices from others. I have to say first that I'm an IMG, I got my medical diploma one year and a half ago, and I really want to make the residency here in the US. To be honest with you and myself, I've been a little bit scared to take the Steps. So much is involved in one simple test and the results that you get from this, that it seems like a joke to think that all the effort and devotion of the last 7 or 8 years will be defined in an 8 hour test. I'm tired of being scared, and I want to finish with this preparation period the best I can. I really want to take the test thinking at the end of it that I did my best, and that whatever will happen, it won't be defined by my lack of responsability and commitment. This is a compromise that I got with myself since I knew I wanted to be a doctor, and I don't want to dissapoint me. I knew that this was going to be part of "the trip", not the first or the worst experience, but certainly one of several that will make me stronger. I have the time, the books, the support of my family, everything to succeed!... the only limitations that I can have are the obstacles I could create. So... ... I would like to take the Step 1 maybe at the end of May, and this is my plan : 1.- The rest of this month and the next one, I'll be reading and making notes. I'm planning to read today Biochemistry from Kaplan Lecture Notes and if there's something I don't understand I'll use Rapid Review and Lippincott's Illustrated Review. I'll do some notes, and at the end of the day I want to read them at least twice. Tomorrow in the morning, I would like to read them twice again, and then I'll start with Mollecular Biology making the same: - read cumulative notes in the morning - read new material in the afternoon making notes of this - and read notes again before bed I have to accept that I trust more in my memory that my logic, so I'll try to keep close to this plan. I'll be using this webpage to register my progress, and if there's any suggestion or question, please write me. Good luck to everybody and thanks for your support
