Just finished CS in Houston center.
The proctors are good,very friendly.
I feel terrible after the exam.
When I drove home I just keep on thinking the mistakes that I made.
They are: 1. I didn't do counseling for a case that warranted quit-smoking. 2, I messed up one phone call case that can't be found in both FA and UW. I think I also messed up with a non-friendly patient case. 3. some of my PN are just not good. One of then I wrote the PMH in the last sentence ( I realized that the SP tole me something that I didn't put on the PN, then I just write in the end at the last minutes.)

What I did that I think is right: 1, knocking door. 2, smile 3, drapping 4, wash hand, 5, asking before each step in PE. 6, closure.

Don't know if I will pass or not.
I will tell you guys in several weeks, let's hope for the best!

I don't recall writing anything on my patient notes although that was a few months back.

I want all of you guys to know that it is NORMAL to feel insecure after the exam. Every now and then you will remember something new that you missed or should have done but you must also remember that the goal of the exam is NOT perfection.

Kudo, most of the examinees forget to counsel a patient or two. I did so myself and I passed. I had a case that was not in FA as well but you're lucky it was a phone case and not a real live one since you were not required to perform a physical. Hostile/Uncooperative SP's are by far the most difficult cases on the exam, they simply do not volunteer to give you any information. I had one of those and after a few weeks a came to the conclusion that if I were to fail it would be because of that case. The SP was so hostile it through me off guard and I forgot basic elements such extending the leg rest while examining the abdomen... I still passed though.

Just keep in mind that you have just gone through an exam which you have no idea about how they score or which cases they score since there are experimental cases on the exam. You guys should check out my exam experience, it will give you a better idea of how many mistakes you can get away with on the exam.

Mildanemia: Thanks for your encouraging. Although I'm still thinking about the details of the exam, I feel better after reading your experiences. Do you know which kind of cases are experimental cases? Is it the one that you feel very strange or they just randomly pick 2 cases as non-scored cases?

Euphoria: good luck to you too! Do you have any idea of when they will report the CS results?

Thank you all for your encouragement!

Kudo,

It's nice to know that you feel better adter reading my experience, it's probably because my mistakes were by far more in number than yours smiling face.

I think the experimental cases are the ones that either have too many things or have too little. I had a case with a single positive symptom, she was sent to the office upon request of her school. At the end of the 15 minutes I had no idea what to say, I wanted to tell her "I have no idea what the hell you have if you even have anything". Another case had so many symptoms I was running around in circles wondering which symptom to analyze because there isn't enough time to analyze them all.

I think the experimental cases are on the exam to see how the examinees respond to them, like some kind of research for potential cases in the future or maybe for analyzing your thinking pattern. What I do know is that they are not scored.

Euphoric, as long as your hand writing is readable then there shouldn't be a problem. Typing is a lot easier and faster, I would recommend it to everyone going for the CS exam in the future. Spend some time on any instant chat program to find out the key locations and you're set.

Thank you mildanemia, I feel better now and I think one of cases that I messed up is the experimental one.

Good luck to you and good luck to me too...smiling face

Kudo:

Your experience reminds me so much of mine in Philly and I was worried sick for the last two months wandering which ones of my case was experimental or not or even what they were looking for when grading this exam.

Well I PASSED.

SO DO NOT WORRY. YOU WILL BE FINE.
