Congrats!! Sounds like a great program.

I have 3 qns for you please, if you don't mind. 1] Do they have Int'nl rorations for Neuro? [I haven't come across this, since int'nl rorations are usually in gen peds or infectious dzs etc] Unless you meant the rotations are during the Gen. Peds year? Secondly, what visas do the offer? I heard it's only J1. Thirdly, you mentioned SF Match. But they also participate in ERAS, right?

Thanks a lot.

ok.

1. international rotations could be in any area you can imagine, even during gen peds you still can say "i wan to do Neuro in Africa for a month" and it would be fine

2. i don't know about visa, i have GC

3. yes, general peds participate in NBME Match/ERAS and i still have to do that part in March, but it will happen rather automatically, because at the time of application for 2010 Child Neuro I was looking at the programs that could offer peds part at the same hospital (integrated Child Neuro), so i would not have to go through another Match and get in the situation when PD would not want to let me go in 2 years.

in order to get into Child Neuro you can do number of things on the way there, and it can get rather confusing and overwhelming, and SF Match is only for CN part, which in my case will start @2010, not for peds, or any other associated specialty (for that we have ERAS), but it could be done at the same time, and i went for peds and CN IV at the same time (1 or 2 days IV) in both departments.

and program does feel great... i remember thinking "man, i want to do all three years here", so if you are considering general peds, it is great place for training and life

hospital is growing (there is a develpoment plan for the next 10 or 12 years, they are started a whole new building...not that the present one is about to fall down, it actually looks very nice), they are planning to expand; downtown area is growing too, so it's a medium size city (about 450k population) with lots of space and safe life... if you want more urban place - it is there, if you want something safe and quiet - it is still there. i loved it

I graduated in 2000. in US from 2001

no MPH, no PhD, no OS/ES in teaching hospital or anything like that. (though there was OS in private practice) ..

what i could say (as my general impression), i think what made a difference in my case are my PS (i did have comments on that), LORs (i had 3, 1 waved and later it got "unwaved"), my scores. I like the thought that my personality was not the last factor as well.

thank you all for your support

it feels incredibly good to know that my story could be an inspiration to 1, 2 or any other number of people. thank you

and good luck

hang on, mukhosmiling face

you know, before i found out that i matched, there was a couple of hours of absolute certainty that i didn't.... and you know what? it didn't hurt as much as i thought it would... i knew, i did it my way, and that part felt great. and that i will work harder next year to get into my residency... so... the fight is on and i wish you a gread deal patience, strength and gret result at the end of this road.

  #39

thanks babydoc..will do just thatsmiling facesmiling face

dear baby doc,

What is the procedure followed to obtain a residency in child neurology. I have visited website of some hopitals and universities. It seems that few offer combined residency and rest either require 2 year or 3 year of pediatrics . How should a person intrested to specialty apply . Do you apply to catagorical pediatrics in some programs and peds neurology? I'm totally lost !!!!confused

congrats babydoc!!and all the very best for the years ahead...

  #43

So when you start residency you will keep coming heregrin

I think that we need to give some extra membership or hero status for those that are inn, and still come to answer questions.
Also it can have a ask thread for them whenever they have free time, if they get some during PGY1

CONGRATS nod

don;t know how much time I will have during my first months, but it will be very hard to leave this forum.... i think i am addicted already smiling facesmiling facesmiling face

my residency starts as everybody else's - orientation in June, following with internship starting in July

@angel^Doctor: it is very confusing and was exactly that for me... there are few ways to get into CN, through IM, throug Peds, both..... it all depends on your preferences and situation.... if you have questions, PM me....

Congratualtion

  #46

Dear Baby doc,
Congratulations on your mighty success! We are very happy for you. Please could you tell me if you waived your rights to see the LOR and whether you posted them yourself. i'm a bit confused about this.Thank you very much.

  #47

2 of my LORs were not waived, and SF Match didn't ask about at all and the 3rd one got "unwaved" later, because I had to go to the same doctor again to get the same letter and submit it to another office.... I didn't see any difference at how my LORs were "treated" (waved or not)... main thing is WHAT IS IN THERE....
thank you and good lucksmiling face

  #48

Baby doc
Thanks for your reply, pls tell me if you posted the LOR yourself. Can we post them ourselves. Is that ok? or must the letter writers' only post them?

  #49

what do you mean "post LOR"? i am not sure I know what does it mean.... sorrysmiling face

  #50

I mean did you mail the LOR'S yourself or did your letter writers mail them to ERAS? Thanks a lot.
